Tips and recommendations by our official guides
Welcome to Asakusa—where layers of Edo-period culture still shape everyday life. While many visitors come to Senso-ji for photos and street snacks, the deeper traditions and stories of this historic district often go unnoticed.
This tour, created in collaboration between MagicalTrip and Rakugo Master Katsura Sunshine, offers a refined blend of history, food, and comedy—designed to reveal the true spirit of Asakusa.
We begin with a stroll along Nakamise Street, sampling classic Edo-style street foods while uncovering their cultural background. At Senso-ji Temple, you’ll be guided through the proper etiquette and customs of visiting a Buddhist temple in Japan—gaining insight into practices that are often overlooked.
From there, we step into Asakusa’s backstreets: browsing traditional items like folding fans along Nishi-sando, exploring the nostalgic entertainment district of Rokku, and experiencing the lively atmosphere of Hoppy Street.
Rakugo, a traditional form of Japanese comic storytelling, flourished during the Edo period (1603–1868) as popular entertainment for townspeople. By immersing yourself in the culture and lifestyle of Edo throughout the tour, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for the grand finale—a live English Rakugo performance by Katsura Sunshine.
This 3.5-hour journey of taste and laughter offers a truly immersive cultural experience—one that goes beyond sightseeing to connect you with the heart of Asakusa.
