Tips and recommendations by our official guides
Welcome to Osaka, Japan’s vibrant merchant capital!
Navigating this dynamic city’s complex subway lines and busy streets can feel overwhelming for first-time visitors. That’s why I designed this 5-hour orientation tour: to help you experience Osaka like a local while discovering its samurai history, deep food culture, and neon-lit streets in one seamless half-day.
We begin at the magnificent Osaka Castle, where you’ll uncover samurai stories and the legacy of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, one of Japan’s most influential historical figures. Then, we ride the subway to Tenjinbashisuji, Japan’s longest shopping street, where you can experience a more local side of Osaka away from the busiest tourist crowds.
Here, we’ll blend in with locals and enjoy authentic takoyaki at a beloved shop with over 70 years of history. You’ll also taste three kinds of kushikatsu at a family-owned local restaurant.
Afterward, we explore Kuromon Market, often known as Osaka’s “Kitchen,” and visit Doguyasuji, a unique shopping street famous for artisan chef knives, kitchen tools, and realistic food samples.
We conclude in energetic Dotonbori, the heart of Osaka’s food scene, where you can feel the city’s lively atmosphere and take a photo at the iconic Glico Sign.
