We were very excited to learn more about sumo wrestling and learn first hand from an experienced guide and were generally pleased with the experience. Hiro was very friendly and knowledgeable about the sumo traditions and relevant locations around the arena.

The downside to our tour was the weather was not optimal. A heatwave was coming through Tokyo and walking outside for an extended period was not ideal. In addition to needing to get inside for shade, it would have been nice to spend more time in the arena watching the lower ranked matches. I felt once we got inside, I would have preferred to sit and watch more of the tournament (the main event), rather than continuing to tour the other exhibits. Further, I could tell everyone was ready to rest their legs. Once we were ready to view the matches, I felt bad that Hiro had some challenges locating our seats. We had to circle the arena a couple times until we located the right section. By the time we sat down, most of the food vendors were out of food, making the experience a little less enjoyable overall.

In all fairness, had the weather been a little more pleasant, I think this tour would have been more enjoyable. I just wish we could have adjusted the plan as a result of the conditions outside.

Hiro was kind, full of energy, and prepared us for the full tour plan before embarking. It was very helpful to understand the training, rules and rituals before watching the matches. This allowed us to more thoroughly enjoy the tournament. We had the privilege to sit next to Hiro during the tournament, and he answered all our questions and provided further information about the history, individual wrestlers and leadership of the association. It was a great experience and a highlight of our trip!

Hiro was very eloquent and made the evening very enjoyable. Food was above my expectations.
