Tips and recommendations by our official guides
This is one of my favorite Ayutthaya routes! We’ll start with a scenic cable car ride to a rare European-style Thai temple—it’s like stepping into a hidden postcard where East meets West. Then we’ll unwind with a peaceful lunch by a pond at Ayutthaya Retreat. Locals love it for the shady trees, the wooden pavilions, and the calming Thai-style atmosphere.
I highly recommend trying the Nam Prik Fried Rice—served with fresh vegetables and fried fish. It’s a perfect all-in-one Thai flavor experience!
And no worries if you don’t eat spicy food or if you’re vegetarian—just let us know in advance, and we’ll happily adjust your meal.
Wat Na Phra Meru is next—it’s spiritual and home to a stunning Buddha in full royal robes. After that, we’ll explore the best gold museum in Thailand. Over 2,000 shimmering treasures from the Ayutthaya period are on display—perfect for history buffs and hidden treasure lovers alike.
Of course, we’ll stop at Wat Mahathat to see the famous Buddha head nestled in tree roots (a must-snap moment!), then dive into the real-life story of stolen gold at the ancient prang of Wat Ratchaburana. It’s got all the drama—mystery, treasure, and local legend. We’ll finish on a sweet note with Ayutthaya’s beloved roti sai mai—soft roti wraps and colorful spun sugar, like edible cotton clouds.
What's included
Ride a River Cable Car to Thailand’s Gothic-Style Temple
Begin your Ayutthaya journey with a unique twist—crossing the river in a charming cable car to visit Wat Niwet Thammaprawat, a rare European-style Thai temple built in Gothic Revival design. With stained glass windows, pointed arches, and stories of East-meets-West creativity, this site surprises every visitor. It’s a peaceful yet striking start, perfect for photos and fascinating tales about King Rama V’s vision.
Lunch by the Pond & Dazzling Gold Relics from Ayutthaya’s Golden Age
Pause for a relaxing lunch at Ayutthaya Retreat, a peaceful hideaway beside a lotus pond where you’ll enjoy home-style Thai dishes and a tranquil garden vibe. After lunch, explore Wat Na Phra Meru, home to some of Ayutthaya’s best-preserved Buddha images and regal artwork. Then, head to the Chao Sam Phraya National Museum—Thailand’s top gold museum—to see over 2,000 ancient treasures once hidden in temple towers. Your guide will reveal the dramatic tale of royal ceremonies, stolen relics, and the glittering secrets of Ayutthaya’s golden age.
Walk Ancient Ruins & Find the Famous Tree-Root Buddha
End the day exploring the historic heart of Ayutthaya. Visit Wat Mahathat to see the world-famous Buddha head nestled in tree roots—one of Thailand’s most iconic images. Then step into Wat Ratchaburana’s centuries-old prang, where hidden chambers once guarded golden secrets. Your guide will share insider tales of royal drama and rediscovered history before you wrap up with a sweet roti sai mai treat—fluffy candy floss wrapped in thin crepes. Pure Ayutthaya magic!
