Tips and recommendations by our official guides
This half-day experience takes you deep into Wat Pho, the birthplace of traditional Thai massage and one of Bangkok’s most spiritual landmarks. Begin with sacred highlights including the Phra Ubosot, the Four Kings Chedi, and the majestic Reclining Buddha. Along the way, discover Ruesi Datton statues, herbal wisdom, and the Thai Massage Museum — revealing how this healing art began as a loving practice within families before evolving into a respected medical tradition.
The highlight is a 2-hour experience at Wat Pho’s original massage school: one hour receiving a rejuvenating Thai massage, followed by one hour of guided hands-on training where you learn simple, practical techniques. Perfect for wellness travelers, couples, or anyone seeking a meaningful cultural connection, this tour blends history, spirituality, and self-care into one journey.
What's included
Step 1: About Wat Pho & Wellness Heritage
Walk into Wat Pho and get the big-picture story behind why Thai massage is linked with temple wisdom. Your guide introduces the idea of keeping the body in balance—both through the flow of vital energy (lom) and the harmony of the four elements—so you can connect what you see in the temple setting to what you’ll learn in the massage portion next.
Step 2: About Massage Museum & Thai Massage (by Trainer)
Head into the Massage Museum area and learn Thai traditional massage from a trainer in a simple, story-like way: its roots in Ayurvedic medicine, Buddhism, and Yoga philosophy, how the four elements (earth, water, wind, fire) should stay in harmony, and how “Sen” energy lines work—especially the key set of 10 lines used in practice—plus the legacy of Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha honored through Wai Khru.
Step 3: Thai Massage experience (by guests)
Then it’s your turn: enjoy a Thai massage session and feel the techniques in action as the practitioner presses, stretches, and massages along the Sen lines to release blockages, improve circulation, and ease pain or tension. The goal is to help restore energy balance and elemental harmony while boosting flexibility, relaxation, and overall vitality.
