Kudichin Village : Thai Portuguess Museam

Kudichin Village and the Baan Kudichin Museum are like a living time capsule tucked along the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok—where Thai and Portuguese heritage have blended for over 250 years. The Kudichin Community traces its roots back to the late 18th century, when Portuguese soldiers and merchants supported King Taksin in reclaiming Ayutthaya. As a reward, they were granted land in Thonburi, where they built homes, churches, and a vibrant multicultural neighborhood. The name “Kudichin” evolved from “Kadichin,” a local term used to describe these Western settlers living near a Chinese shrine. At the heart of this community is the Baan Kudichin Museum, founded by descendants of the original Portuguese-Thai families. The museum is housed in a restored family home and is divided into four charming sections: A café and garden where visitors can relax A second floor exhibit on the arrival of the Portuguese and the Thonburi era A third floor showcasing family heirlooms and daily life A rooftop gallery offering panoramic views of the Kudichin neighborhood One of the most iconic symbols here is the Rooster of Barcelos, a Portuguese legend of justice and faith. The museum proudly displays this symbol to honor its ancestral roots

Big Buddha - Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen

Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen isn’t just a temple—it’s a story of revival, meditation, and spiritual legacy nestled in Bangkok’s Thonburi district. Founded in 1610 during the Ayutthaya period, Wat Paknam was once known as Wat Prasat Suan Sawan or “Temple of the Heavenly Garden Palace.” Over time, it became known as Wat Paknam, meaning “temple at the river mouth,” due to its location near the Bang Luang Canal The pagoda at Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen isn’t just a structure—it’s a cosmic experience wrapped in white marble and spiritual symbolism. The pagoda also houses a museum of sacred relics, cultural artifacts, and a golden statue of Luang Pu Sodh, the revered monk who revitalized meditation practices here in the 20th century For many Thai Buddhists, this space isn’t just for sightseeing—it’s a place of reflection, reverence, and connection to the Dhamma.

Khlong Bang Luang Artist Village

Locally known as Baan Silapin (บ้านศิลปิน)—is a hidden gem tucked along a peaceful canal in Bangkok’s Thonburi district. It’s more than just a place; it’s a living, breathing community where art, tradition, and everyday life flow together like the waters of the khlong itself. The Artist Village is centered around a 200-year-old wooden house that once belonged to the Raksamruat family, a lineage of goldsmiths. Today, it’s been lovingly restored into a creative hub featuring: Art galleries showcasing local paintings and photography Handicraft workshops where visitors can join in making jewelry or traditional Thai crafts A canal-side café perfect for sipping coffee while watching long-tail boats drift by And most famously, traditional Thai puppet shows performed by the Tumnai Puppet Company, bringing folktales and Ramayana scenes to life with exquisite craftsmanship The house itself wraps around an ancient chedi (stupa) believed to be over 300 years old, adding a spiritual heartbeat to the space. Locals and visitors alike stroll the wooden walkways, browse handmade souvenirs, and soak in the charm of a neighborhood that feels untouched by time.

Pad Krapao

Historically, Pad Krapao gained popularity during the mid-20th century as urbanization surged and quick, affordable meals became essential for Bangkok’s growing workforce. It’s often called the “real national dish” by locals—not just for its taste, but for how deeply it reflects Thai values: bold, balanced, and never boring
