The Traditional Event "Autumn Grand Festival" at Meiji Shrine is Also Must-See!

"Autumn Grand Festival" at Meiji Shrine

Meiji Shrine is a shrine surrounded by vast forest in the Shibuya area and is one of Japan's representative tourist spots. Built in 1920, it enshrines Emperor Meiji and the Empress, who supported Japan's modernization.

Despite being in the city center, the grounds are wrapped in deep forest and filled with tranquility, creating a place where you can feel a special atmosphere just by visiting.

The "Autumn Grand Festival" held annually from November 1st to 3rd is one of this shrine's representative traditional events, recommended for those who want to experience Japanese culture.

Held to coincide with Emperor Meiji's birthday on November 3rd, traditional performing arts including ancient music called Kagura and "Noh," Japan's oldest form of theater, are performed on special stages, creating a gorgeous and solemn atmosphere.

Being able to directly experience Japan's spiritual culture and traditional performing arts while in the heart of Tokyo is a unique experience only Meiji Shrine can offer.

I also witnessed "Yabusame (meaning 'horseback archery')" during the Autumn Grand Festival, and watching people in samurai costumes riding horses while shooting arrows at targets was truly impressive and very memorable.
