Two Shopping Streets Where You Can Enjoy Shopping While Viewing Mt. Fuji
Did you know that there are two shopping streets around Mt. Fuji where you can enjoy shopping while viewing the mountain? From these two shopping streets, you can see precious views of Mt. Fuji that can only be encountered here!
Honmachi Shopping Street
Source:Fuji Yoshida City
Honmachi Shopping Street is a popular photo spot among foreigners where you can see the collaboration between the Showa-era shopping street scenery and Mt. Fuji. The retro signs and lanterns along the street evoke old Japan, and strolling through the shopping street gives you the feeling of traveling back in time.
The shopping street extends straight toward Mt. Fuji, and if you compose your shot with Mt. Fuji in the center and shops on both ends, even beginners can take well-balanced photos. You can capture truly Japanese shots that you'll definitely want to share immediately with family and friends on social media.
Photography is freely allowed, but since it's a busy area with heavy traffic, taking photos in the roadway is dangerous. You can view the magnificent Mt. Fuji from the sidewalk, so be sure to take photos from the sidewalk only.

Lake Kawaguchi East Shore
Source:Kawaguchiko Lake
Lake Kawaguchi is one of the Fuji Five Lakes located in Yamanashi Prefecture, popular for viewing "upside-down Mt. Fuji" (Mt. Fuji reflected upside down on the lake surface). Since Lake Kawaguchi is large, you can enjoy different views of Mt. Fuji depending on the direction you look, which is its attractive feature.
From the northeast area, you can view the most beautiful Mt. Fuji from around Lake Kawaguchi. In spring, you can see Mt. Fuji together with cherry blossoms, and in autumn with autumn leaves, enjoying seasonal scenery throughout the year.
From the northwest to northeast areas, while you can't see as clear views of Mt. Fuji, there are tourist facilities, campgrounds, and resort facilities where you can enjoy various activities.

Three Spots Where You Can Purchase Traditional Crafts Around Mt. Fuji
From here, we'll introduce three spots where you can purchase traditional crafts from around Mt. Fuji.
Traditional crafts from around Mt. Fuji include silk products, glass, and deer leather items that can be used for a long time if cared for properly. Find your favorite products and take them home as souvenirs!
There are also facilities where you can experience hands-on activities, so if time permits, try experiencing Japanese traditional culture firsthand.
Oishitsumugi Traditional Craft Museum
Source:Official website
Oishitsumugi Traditional Craft Museum is a facility where "Oishi Tsumugi" is exhibited, sold, and where you can observe the production process and participate in experiences. "Oishi Tsumugi" is a traditional textile that began in the Edo period, characterized by being hand-woven using unique techniques.
My recommendation is the "face puff" made from 100% domestic cocoons, which are the raw material for "Oishi Tsumugi." The "face puff" is a popular product that is said to give you beautiful skin simply by massaging with the puff after washing your face. When I gave it as a souvenir to my sister, she was very pleased and said her skin became smoother.
In the hand-weaving and accessory-making experience classes held at the facility, you can touch "Oishi Tsumugi," so please try it and experience its wonderful texture.

Freely Glass Workshop and Gallery
Source:Official website
Freely Glass Workshop and Gallery is a glass workshop where you can purchase glass products and participate in workshops for making dragonfly beads (glass beads), glass beads, and sandblasting.
My recommendation is the sandblast experience. You choose your preferred glass, then attach original illustrations or templates to finish it. I once made a glass with my initials and a cat design. While it requires detailed work and takes time to create, you end up with a unique glass that's one of a kind in the world, making it a highly satisfying experience.
The gallery attached to the workshop displays and sells not only original workshop pieces but also works by domestic and international artists. The glass works designed with various patterns are worth seeing and enjoyable just to look at.

Indenya Kofu Main Store
Source:Official website
Indenya Kofu Main Store is the head store of "Indenya Uehara Yūshichi," which handles "Koshu Inden," established in 1582. "Koshu Inden" is characterized by applying lacquer patterns to deer leather, and is a traditional craft from Koshu with over 400 years of history, combining the softness and durability of deer leather with the elegance of lacquer.
Inside the store, various products such as bags, wallets, pouches, and card cases are displayed. I still carefully use a business card holder I purchased about 6 years ago. The more you use it, the more the deer leather becomes familiar to your hand, and the lacquer gains a deep, lustrous shine, allowing you to enjoy its aging process.
Since there are many products suitable for daily use, why not purchase something as a souvenir for yourself?

3 Recommended Local Gourmet & Shop Selections for Takeout Enjoyment
From here, we'll introduce a carefully selected 3 recommendations of local gourmet food and shops that you can enjoy as takeout. The representative cuisine around the Mt. Fuji area consists of dishes that can be eaten casually without formality, so feel free to stop by.
Fujinomiya Yakisoba (Men no Kanoya)

The first shop is Fujinomiya Yakisoba (Men no Kanoya). Men no Kanoya is a long-established noodle factory founded in 1948, where you can taste carefully crafted noodles made with Mt. Fuji's abundant spring water and traditional manufacturing methods passed down through generations.
My beloved Fujinomiya yakisoba noodles use original "steamed noodles for Fujinomiya yakisoba," allowing you to savor their strong texture and the umami of wheat flour. The takeout set includes original noodles and sauce, meat scraps (what remains after extracting lard from pork fat), and shaved bonito flakes (thinly shaved dried fish), allowing you to easily enjoy authentic Fujinomiya yakisoba at home. The preparation method is simple, so I finished a 6-meal set in no time.
The menu also includes fresh ramen, udon, soba, and gyoza, so please consider purchasing them together with Fujinomiya yakisoba.

Yoshida Udon (Sakurai Udon)
The second shop is Yoshida Udon (Sakurai Udon). Founded in 1953, Sakurai Udon is the birthplace of the boiled cabbage topping that has become synonymous with Yoshida udon, where you can eat the original Yoshida udon.
Sakurai Udon's noodles are characterized by their thick texture and strong chewiness, with a simple soup made only from niboshi iriko (boiled and dried sardines) broth and soy sauce that enhances the deliciousness of the noodles. The chewy texture of the topped boiled cabbage provides an accent, and I was able to finish it without getting bored until the end.
In addition to eating in the historically atmospheric interior, takeout is also possible if you have a container for udon soup. There are also half-size udon menu options, so why not try it as a snack?

Houtou (Koshu Hoto Kosaku)
The third shop is Houtou (Koshu Hoto Kosaku). At Koshu Hoto Kosaku, you can enjoy houtou, a local cuisine of Yamanashi, with a rich variety of flavors, as well as taste single dishes using ingredients unique to the local area.
Koshu Hoto Kosaku's original noodles are characterized by not falling apart even when simmered from raw noodle state together with vegetables and meat. I have tried the most popular pumpkin houtou, which offers a gentle sweetness. The pumpkin houtou allows you to eat elastic and chewy noodles together with plenty of ingredients, so even I, as a man, felt full after finishing it completely.
Takeout products that allow you to enjoy houtou at home are sold at the store front, making them recommended as souvenirs.

For All-Day Shopping Enjoyment, "Gotemba Premium Outlets" is Recommended!
Source:Official website
If you want to enjoy shopping all day long, I recommend "Gotemba Premium Outlets." Within the approximately 3km facility, a wide variety of products are packed together, and even a full day wouldn't be enough time to see everything.
In addition to shopping stores, there are restaurants and food courts perfect for lunch and dinner, cafes ideal for breaks, and even a mini amusement park for children, making it reputed as a place where families with children can spend an entire day.
One of Japan's Premier Outlet Malls with Approximately 290 Stores
"Gotemba Premium Outlets" is one of Japan's premier outlet malls with approximately 290 stores gathered together.
With outlet shops covering various genres including popular luxury brands from Japan and abroad, daily necessities, outdoor equipment, and gourmet food, people of all ages and genders can enjoy shopping here in 2025. Although it's a vast site, it's largely divided into three categories - West Zone, East Zone, and Hillside - making it easy to find the products you're looking for.
With attractive products significantly marked down, I always end up buying too much.
Hotels, Hot Springs, and Restaurants are also Well-Equipped for All-Day Enjoyment
"Gotemba Premium Outlets" also has well-equipped hotels, hot springs, and restaurants within its grounds, making it an attractive point that you can enjoy all day long.
My recommendation is "Kinohana no Yu," where you can enjoy day-trip hot springs. You can enjoy hot springs while viewing the spectacular scenery of Mt. Fuji from the large bath, enjoy private space with family or lovers in private hot springs, and heal daily fatigue in saunas and relaxation facilities.
After walking a lot and enjoying shopping, relaxing in the hot springs will surely satisfy both body and mind!

Many Tourist Attractions in the Surrounding Area
The fact that there are many tourist attractions around "Gotemba Premium Outlets" should not be overlooked. My recommended tourist spots are Tokinosumika and Fuji Safari Park.
At the complex resort facility Tokinosumika, you can enjoy sports, art museums, aquariums, and restaurants, while at Fuji Safari Park, one of Japan's largest safari-style zoos, you can see lions and giraffes up close from your own car or park buses, and touch kangaroos and capybaras in the interaction zone.
When you visit "Gotemba Premium Outlets" for your Mt. Fuji shopping experience in 2025, make sure to also visit the surrounding tourist spots full of attractions to create unforgettable memories before heading home!
