13 Best Bars in Hiroshima 2026: Local's Guide with Area Map, Hidden Gems & Special Bars

Hiroshima Published: Apr 3, 2026

Hiroshima is a historic port city home to the World Heritage-listed Atomic Bomb Dome and Itsukushima Shrine, famous for its grand torii gate appearing to float on the sea.

The city is also known as a culinary destination, renowned for okonomiyaki and oysters. But Hiroshima's charm doesn't end when the sun goes down.

As evening falls, the drinking districts nestled among streets where retro streetcars run come alive with lights. What makes Hiroshima's nightlife so appealing is that the city is more compact than Tokyo or Osaka, making it easy to enjoy casual bar hopping.

In this guide, I'll introduce 12 bars that I personally visited and carefully selected as the best bars in Hiroshima for 2026.

Recommended Nightlife Spot Map: Where Izakayas Gather in Hiroshima

Hiroshima's nightlife is mainly divided into five areas. The red area on the map, "Hatchobori," is a central district lined with department stores and office buildings, yet hidden gems beloved by locals are scattered throughout its back alleys.

The light blue "Nagarekawa" is one of the largest entertainment districts in the Chugoku-Shikoku region, and serves as the heart of Hiroshima's nightlife, packed with bars, clubs, and izakayas.

The green area, "Kamiyacho / Hondori / Fukuromachi," is a dining district on par with Hatchobori and Nagarekawa. Its proximity to shopping areas makes it easily accessible for tourists.

The purple "EKINISHI" is a redeveloped area spreading south of Hiroshima Station, offering the attractive advantage of being able to grab a drink immediately after stepping off the shinkansen.

Finally, the pin in the upper left of the map indicates "Around Yokokawa Station," a hidden gem where tourists rarely venture and locals make up the majority of patrons. If you want to experience the deep side of Hiroshima's nightlife, be sure to pay this area a visit.

Hiroshima boasts numerous authentic bars run by highly skilled bartenders.

I'll introduce three distinctive establishments: one with an impressive collection of spirits, one with a hidden speakeasy atmosphere, and one that takes pride in cocktails made with fresh fruits.

This is a must-visit bar for spirits enthusiasts—a treasure trove of whisky, rum, gin, and every kind of spirit imaginable.

When I first visited, I was overwhelmed by the number of bottles lining the walls. The interior is simple yet sophisticated, with minimal decoration that allows you to focus entirely on the drinks themselves.

Open until 4:00 AM, it's perfect for a nightcap after enjoying dinner at another establishment. Even beginners can share their taste preferences, and the staff will find the perfect bottle from their vast collection.

Enjoying a drink while hearing the stories behind each spirit is a truly special experience.

Bar Alegre

Run by a veteran bartender with over 25 years of experience, "Bar Alegre" is a unique establishment where you can enjoy two distinct spaces within one venue.

The area called "Chashitsu" is a calm space inspired by traditional Japanese tea rooms. The other, "Speakeasy," evokes the atmosphere of a secret bar from the American Prohibition era of the 1920s.

My recommendation is the counter seating in the Chashitsu area. Listening to jazz playing softly while watching cocktails being crafted right before my eyes was a moment of pure bliss.

The signature cocktails created by a bartender who has won awards at domestic and international cocktail competitions are works of art in both appearance and taste.

The original cocktails featuring seasonal fruits offer new discoveries with every visit.

"BAR BUSSHUKAN" offers an extensive menu of fruit cocktails, featuring colorful drinks made generously with fresh seasonal fruits.

The bar's name, "Busshukan," refers to a type of citrus fruit considered a good luck charm due to its distinctive shape. When I visited, I enjoyed a cocktail made with a whole Hiroshima-grown lemon.

Watching the bartender's elegant techniques from across the counter is like watching a performance.

The cocktails, which maximize the sweetness and aroma of the fruits, are easy to drink even for those who don't usually enjoy alcohol.

With an abundance of seasonal limited-time offerings, this is a bar you'll want to visit again and again in search of the freshest fruits.

"Bar Hiroshima" in the Nagarekawa area is a bar with a welcoming atmosphere. When I visited on a weekday evening, there were customers who seemed to be regulars at the counter, and the veteran master and friendly mama warmly welcomed me, so I was able to relax right away even though it was my first visit.

Their cocktails made with fresh fruit are popular. I ordered a cocktail made with seasonal fruit. It was a luxurious drink packed with fruit pulp, with an adult taste that wasn't too sweet.

The menu changes with the seasons, and many regulars come specifically for cocktails made with seasonal ingredients.

They're open until 3 AM, making it perfect for a second or third stop of the night.

"Bar Little Happiness," established 20 years ago, boasts an impressive selection with over 1,000 bottles of whisky and rum in stock.

What particularly impressed me was the depth of the bartender's knowledge. They carefully explained the differences in taste depending on the rum's origin, and it felt like I was taking a class on rum.

There's no cover charge, and they have an English menu, so foreign tourists can order with confidence.

My recommendation is to tell the bartender "how you're feeling today" and have them create an original cocktail for you.
