Sapporo, the central city of Hokkaido, is one of Japan's top tourist destinations, offering a perfect blend of seasonal natural beauty and comprehensive urban functions. Known as one of Japan's premier gourmet cities, it attracts travelers from both domestic and international locations seeking culinary delights such as fresh seafood, rich miso ramen, and Genghis Khan (grilled lamb), a local Hokkaido specialty cooked on iron plates.
Sapporo's charm doesn't fade when night falls. With high-quality cuisine and drinks, the nightlife is exceptionally vibrant, featuring multiple areas lined with izakayas, bars, and nightclubs. There's even a saying that "the real action begins after sunset," highlighting Sapporo's unique nighttime energy.

3 Recommended Izakayas Open Past Midnight in Sapporo
Sapporo has many izakayas that remain open past midnight. From these options, I'll introduce three establishments that I highly recommend for anyone who loves enjoying Sapporo's nightlife.
Teppan Izakaya Teppachi Sapporo Odori Branch
Source:Tabelog
Teppan Izakaya Teppachi Sapporo Odori Branch is a restaurant where you can enjoy seafood and beef grilled dynamically on the iron plate right before your eyes.
Their signature "Kaisen GanGan-yaki" features Hokkaido seafood including oysters, scallops, and fresh king crab, steamed and grilled dramatically on the iron plate. The moment when the lid is opened after grilling provides both visual impact and a perfect photo opportunity.
They also serve "Wagyu," carefully selected Japanese beef from breeds improved from native Japanese cattle, which is also grilled on the iron plate for your enjoyment.
What I particularly recommend is their assorted menu featuring 10 types of fresh seafood. You'll surely be amazed by its photogenic presentation.
The restaurant also features extensive original cocktails and a wide variety of drinks.

Hokkaido Seafood Izakaya Saburo Sapporo Susukino Branch

Hokkaido Seafood Izakaya Saburo Sapporo Susukino Branch is conveniently located within a 5-minute walk from Susukino Station, the heart of Sapporo's nightlife scene.
You can enjoy sushi, sashimi, and grilled seafood dishes made with seasonal fish and shellfish delivered fresh daily from Rausu, an area facing the Sea of Okhotsk in eastern Hokkaido.
While there are many attractive menu items featuring fresh seafood, I especially recommend their dish featuring 10 types of seafood sashimi arranged on a wooden board. Small plates with the names of the seafood written in Japanese are inserted into the arrangement, creating a distinctly Japanese presentation perfect for photography.
They also offer an extensive lineup of local Japanese sake, allowing you to fully enjoy pairings of local ingredients with local alcohol.

Sumiyakisakaba Robata to IPPO
Source:Tabelog
Sumiyakisakaba Robata to IPPO is a restaurant where you can enjoy various Hokkaido ingredients grilled over charcoal.
In addition to fresh seafood, they offer vegetables and Japanese "Wagyu" beef, allowing you to choose your preferred ingredients according to your mood.
While they offer various seafood options, I particularly recommend the hokke (Atka mackerel), a Hokkaido specialty that's fatty and pairs perfectly with Japanese sake.
Beyond charcoal grilling, I also recommend their "Oden," a dish where vegetables and processed fish paste are simmered in soup. This restaurant's oden features a miso-based soup, offering various flavors including sweet miso, dashi-rich broths, and spicy options, making it fun to compare different tastes.
They also offer plans where you can drink unlimited beer, shochu, and Japanese sake for 120 minutes at a fixed price, perfect for alcohol enthusiasts.

3 Recommended Sapporo Bars That Come Alive After Midnight
Sapporo has numerous nightlife spots, and most people visit bars as their second or third stop after enjoying meals at izakayas. Therefore, bars tend to be more lively during late hours.
Here are recommended bars that come alive after midnight, making them perfect Sapporo places to eat midnight 2025 destinations.
The Bow Bar
Source:Tabelog
The Bow Bar stocks over 1,000 types of alcohol, focusing on hard liquors such as single malt whisky and brandy. This level of selection might be unmatched elsewhere in Hokkaido (as far as I know!).
The interior is centered around a counter with dimmed lighting, creating a calm bar atmosphere. Decades-old Scotch, brandy, and Armagnac line the shelves, where you can encounter rare and vintage items.
The bar master is particularly knowledgeable about Armagnac and has prepared many original bottles. I found my favorite drink while consulting with the master. Even Armagnac beginners can feel confident as they receive careful guidance.
The excellent accessibility, just about a 1-minute walk from Susukino Station, is another advantage.

Beer Inn Mugishutei
Source:Tabelog
Beer Inn Mugishutei is an established beer bar founded in 1980. It handles approximately 300 types of canned and bottled beers collected from around the world, and constantly has 6 types of draft beer on tap, making it Japan's oldest existing beer bar.
The owner is a legendary figure who spread craft beer culture throughout Japan. The interior features dim lighting with 1980s MTV playing, creating an American vintage atmosphere with bottles and cans decorating the entire wall.
From beer beginners to enthusiasts, the staff carefully selects the right drink for each person. When I was overwhelmed by the sheer variety of beers, I shared my preferred taste profile and received excellent recommendations.
The food menu is extensive, offering hamburgers, pizza, tacos, and other casual foods that make this an ideal Sapporo place to eat after midnight.

The Nikka Bar
Source:Official website
THE NIKKA BAR is an authentic bar directly operated by NIKKA Whisky, located right near the intersection in the center of Susukino. Among the Nikka bars scattered throughout Japan, this is the only special establishment that bears the name "The." This designation signifies the prestige and quality of Nikka's flagship store.
From standard Taketsuru and Yoichi to rare limited bottles, you can enjoy uncompromising drinks even late at night. The space features heavy brick interior design and indirect lighting that creates a relaxing atmosphere.
My recommendation is the 3-type whisky tasting set, or enjoying Yoichi single malt alongside a freshly fried katsu sandwich. With counter seating, tables, and private rooms available, it accommodates everything from solo drinking to group gatherings.

Sapporo's nightlife offers numerous spots to enjoy alcohol, but there are times when you want to savor quality food even past midnight. Here are the top places to eat in Sapporo that remain open well into the night, perfect for tourists exploring the city in 2025.
Tatsuki

Tatsuki is a popular restaurant specializing in hamburger curry—Sapporo's signature soup curry topped with hamburger. Operating until 3:30 AM, it's a precious establishment where you can enjoy a proper meal late into the night, making it an essential Sapporo place to eat for midnight dining in 2025.
Soup curry is a Hokkaido-originated dish featuring large-cut vegetables and meat in smooth-textured, spiced soup. You can choose from chili tomato soup, rich shrimp soup, or mild coconut soup.
Spiciness levels and toppings are customizable to your preference, accommodating both spicy food lovers and those who prefer milder flavors. The abundant topping variety allows you to explore different flavor combinations. The food is so delicious that even at midnight, I find myself ordering extra rice.

Teshikaga Ramen
Source:Tabelog
Sapporo is renowned as a ramen city, with rich miso-based soups being particularly popular. "Sapporo Ramen Yokocho" has operated since 1951 as a landmark where ramen specialty shops line up, making it an unmissable spot for domestic and international travelers. "Teshikaga Ramen" is strategically located within this famous district.
Operating until 3 AM, it's perfect for post-drinking meals or as a satisfying conclusion to your sightseeing adventures—truly one of the premier Sapporo places to eat during your midnight exploration in 2025.
The signature "Fish-based squeezed soy sauce ramen" features fragrant charcoal-grilled pork and rich seafood broth that blend exquisitely, creating a deeply satisfying dish. You can fully appreciate Hokkaido's exceptional seafood flavors.
Multiple soup options including miso and salt accommodate various preferences. The snow crab-topped ramen comes highly recommended. The counter-only seating creates a homey atmosphere where you can authentically experience Japanese ramen culture.

Higuma Yokocho Honten

Higuma Yokocho Honten is also a restaurant located within Sapporo Ramen Yokocho.
The soup made with ham has a clear yet rich flavor that pairs perfectly with the miso taste. There are four varieties of miso available, including basic and spicy options, allowing you to choose according to your preference.
The pork slowly grilled and hung in a roasting kiln is Higuma Yokocho Honten's signature topping. You'll become captivated by the pork with its crispy surface and juicy interior.
The soup is so delicious that I always drink it down to the last drop. It's also perfect after drinking alcohol, making it an excellent recommendation when you get hungry at midnight.

If you want to drink until dawn, Susukino 0 Banchi is recommended
Source:Google Maps
The retro dining district "Susukino 0 Banchi" that spreads underground in Susukino is a deep spot perfect for midnight bar hopping.
Born in 1971, approximately 30 establishments including izakayas and bars line the area. All have a deep atmosphere where you can enjoy the feeling of time-slipping back to the past, and it has now become a popular spot among the younger generation as well.
It's the perfect place to enjoy Japanese nightlife, with conversations across small counters with shop masters and the relaxed atmosphere of customers chatting with each other.
Since it's open until morning, it's perfect when you want to drink through the night. I visited myself, and each shop was so enjoyable and comfortable that one night wasn't enough time.
