Top 10 Must-Try Dinner Restaurants in Akihabara for 2025: From Maid Cafés to Japanese Culinary

akihabara Published: Jun 25, 2025

Akihabara is known as the center of Japanese subculture such as anime and games, and is also famous as Japan's largest electronics district. After World War II, black markets for home appliances and electronic components spread around Akihabara, which led to the development of an area that handles many electronic products including computers and games.

Additionally, Akihabara, a terminal station where multiple train lines intersect, has numerous restaurants. Because it's an area where many people come and go, from businessmen to tourists, Akihabara offers a variety of restaurants.

This time, I will introduce several recommended dinner spots in the Akihabara area. If you're planning dinner at Akihabara in 2025, please use this as a reference!

Recommended Dinner Spots in Akihabara Where You Can Enjoy Delicious Japanese Cuisine

Michelin-Listed Restaurants

Marugo (Tonkatsu Restaurant)

Marugo (Tonkatsu Restaurant)
Source:Tripadvisor

Marugo is a long-established tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet) restaurant founded in 1975, a famous establishment that has been loved in Akihabara for many years. The thin batter, deep-fried slowly in low-temperature oil, is characterized by its light texture, attracting many fans from Japan and abroad.

The signature dishes are "Special Hire Katsu" (tenderloin) and "Special Rosu Katsu" (loin). If you like juicy meat with good fat, "Special Rosu Katsu" is recommended. If you order the "Teishoku Set" for an additional fee, you can enjoy rice and miso soup together, tasting it in the traditional Japanese way called "Teishoku" set menu.

Marugo's tonkatsu uses carefully selected domestic pork, making the meat tender with umami spreading in your mouth. When eating, please season it with salt, mustard, or sauce according to your preference. Among these, eating with salt is my recommended way to best enjoy the natural flavor of the meat.

Tonkatsu is also a staple soul food in Japanese home cooking. Please experience this aspect of Japanese food culture.

Yakiniku Motoyama Akihabara Ten

Yakiniku Motoyama is a long-established yakiniku (grilled meat) restaurant that was founded in 1975 in Okachimachi, the neighboring station to Akihabara. In November 2024, they opened this second location in the Akihabara area.

They focus on serving Kobe Beef and other Wagyu, allowing you to enjoy high-quality A5 rank black Wagyu (proof of the highest quality among Japanese beef) at reasonable prices—about 60% of what you'd pay at high-end restaurants.

My top recommendation is the rare steak called "Château Misuji," a special cut available only at the Akihabara location that spreads the umami and juiciness of beef in your mouth.

Also, "Shinryu," available in limited quantities, is an Instagram-worthy signature dish that I would recommend to first-timers. The Kobe beef dragon kalbi shaped like a dragon is served with smoke, resembling Shenron from Dragon Ball.

Toritsune Shizendo (Chicken Restaurant)

Toritsune Shizendo
Source:Tripadvisor

Toritsune Shizendo is a chicken specialty restaurant established in 1972. It is a sister restaurant of "Toritsune," a long-established restaurant born in the Yushima area in 1911.

At Toritsune Shizendo, you can enjoy dishes made with two types of famous regional chickens from Akita and Nagoya. The restaurant purchases whole chickens, and the owner, who holds a poultry processing qualification, processes them daily in-store, providing chicken dishes of high freshness.

The most popular dish, primarily served during lunch, is oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl), which I also recommend to first-time visitors. The half-cooked egg, two types of chicken meat, and special soy-based sauce (Warishita) match perfectly. In the evening, you can enjoy various parts of chicken with "chicken soup hot pot" or "chicken sukiyaki hot pot."

This restaurant is perfect for those who want to taste the mild and delicate Japanese seasoning that values the texture and umami of ingredients.

Locally Loved Restaurants

Kyushu Jangara Akihabara

Kyushu Jangara Akihabara

Kyushu Jangara Akihabara is a popular ramen chain that was established in Akihabara in 1984. Their appeal lies in the smooth, easy-to-eat ramen soup based on tonkotsu (pork bone) ramen that originated in the Kyushu region.

Kyushu Jangara Akihabara offers seven types of ramen, with "Kyushu Jangara" being the most recommended. For those who prefer rich soup, "Bonshan" made with plenty of pork bones is recommended, while spicy soup lovers should try "Karabon," which blends more than 10 different spices.

Toppings can be freely customized, with the "all-inclusive" option being the most popular. This comes with Japanese ingredients such as pork kakuni (braised pork belly), mentaiko (spicy cod roe), ajitama (seasoned soft-boiled egg), and kikurage (wood ear mushroom).

A delightful feature is that they also offer plant-based soy sauce ramen for vegans. If you're a vegan who hasn't had the opportunity to try ramen before, please give it a taste during your dinner at Akihabara 2025.

Roast Beef Ohno-Ya

At Roast Beef Ohno, you can enjoy roast beef donburi (rice bowl) piled high like Mount Fuji. Try their finest roast beef, carefully prepared over more than 7 hours using only A4-grade or higher Japanese Black beef.

The menu features two types of roast beef donburi set meals: "Rich" using Japanese Black beef and "Healthy" with leaner meat. You can customize the flavor using the condiments provided in the set. This allows you to enjoy your roast beef donburi without getting tired of it until the end.

Roast beef originated in England but was combined with Japanese "Donburi" cuisine (rice topped with fish or meat in a deep bowl) to create roast beef donburi. When planning your dinner at Akihabara 2025, why not try this uniquely Japanese way of enjoying roast beef?

Gyukatsu Ichi Ni San

Did you know that katsu dishes include not only tonkatsu but also gyukatsu (beef cutlet)? Gyukatsu is a dish where thinly sliced beef is coated with breadcrumbs and deep-fried.

Gyukatsu Ichi Ni San is a restaurant in Akihabara specializing in beef cutlets. Since they only serve gyukatsu, there's no need to worry about what to order. The beef cutlet is fried rare and served with a hot stone plate, allowing you to cook it to your preferred doneness.

They use fine, powdery batter, resulting in a crispy texture even with just 60 seconds of frying time. Several condiments are provided, including wasabi soy sauce, rock salt, and mountain wasabi sauce, allowing you to enjoy the beef cutlet with different flavors.

With only 11 seats, this small restaurant constantly has lines of customers. When planning your dinner at Akihabara 2025, it's recommended to visit with plenty of time to spare.

At-home cafe is a pioneer of maid cafés, established in 2004 in Akihabara. With branches in Osaka and Nagoya as well, they have over 550 maids working across all locations.

The main food menu consists of omurice (omelet rice) and curry, with the omurice being particularly popular as the maids draw cute designs with ketchup that you'll definitely want to photograph.

You can also enjoy services unique to maid cafés, such as having the maids cast a spell (called "Moe Moe Kyun!" in Japanese) on your food and drinks. When they chant this spell, you might feel like your food tastes significantly better!

Furthermore, they host events such as photo sessions with maids and stage performances with singing and dancing. If you're planning to have dinner at Akihabara in 2025 and want to experience not just food but also Akihabara-style entertainment, definitely pay them a visit.
