If You're Going from Shibuya to Akihabara, "Train" or "Taxi" Is Recommended

For access from Shibuya to Akihabara, trains and taxis are the two main options.

Trains are economical with low fares, but you need to consider transfers and crowding. Taxis, on the other hand, are more expensive but recommended for those who prioritize comfort and time efficiency.

Personally, I often use taxis because trains take too much time.

Train: Around 40 Minutes

Train: Around 40 Minutes

- 2-minute walk from Shibuya Scramble Crossing to Shibuya Station
- Direct access from Shibuya Station to Akihabara Station via the Yamanote Line (outer loop)
- 5-minute walk from Akihabara Station to Akihabara Electric Town

Trains are the most affordable option, ideal for those who want to keep costs down. The Yamanote Line is a loop line connecting Tokyo's major stations, making it an easy-to-understand route.

However, during morning and evening rush hours (7:00–9:00, 17:00–19:00), trains become extremely crowded, making it difficult to travel with large luggage.

Also, since Shibuya Station is a large station with multiple lines, first-time visitors can easily get lost, so caution is needed.

- Travel time: Approximately 40 minutes
- Estimated fare: 210 yen (per adult)

Taxi: Around 25 Minutes

Taxi: Around 25 Minutes

- Board a taxi from the taxi stand near Shibuya Scramble Crossing
- Tell the driver "Akihabara Denkigai"
- Get off near Akihabara Electric Town

Taxis are recommended for those who want to make the most of their time or prioritize comfort.

Although they cost more than other transportation options, if you're traveling in a group of 3–4 people, the cost per person becomes more reasonable. Plus, you don't have to worry about luggage.

The reason I choose taxis is that they get you there in less time compared to trains, and you can travel comfortably seated all the way to your destination.

However, please note that roads can be congested during weekday afternoons and weekends, which may extend travel time.

- Travel time: Approximately 25 minutes
- Estimated fare: 4,000–5,000 yen

Points to Note When Heading from Shibuya to Akihabara

Shibuya Station is a major terminal station, so the Yamanote Line is always crowded. This can be particularly burdensome for families with children, elderly travelers, or those carrying large luggage. If you prioritize comfort, we recommend using a taxi.

Some shops in Akihabara, especially privately-owned specialty stores and secondhand shops, may close around 7:00–8:00 PM. If you have specific stores you plan to visit, we recommend checking their business hours in advance.

By using the Yamanote Line, you can make stops at popular areas like Harajuku and Ueno along the way. If you want to efficiently visit multiple areas, traveling by train is suitable.
