Nagataya
Source:Tabelog
If you want to eat Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, I recommend "Nagataya." Hiroshima okonomiyaki is characterized by layering each ingredient separately rather than mixing them together, with noodles sandwiched between the batter. This allows you to directly taste the deliciousness of each ingredient.
When I first ate okonomiyaki at Nagataya, I found the sauce incredibly delicious. The custom-made fruity sauce, generously made with tomatoes, has a refreshing taste that never gets boring.
If you can't decide what to order, please try the "Orijinal," which contains pork, shrimp, green onion, egg, and Chinese noodles. The teppan-grilled oysters and gyoza are also superb!

Ekohiiki
Source:Official website
"Ekohiiki" is an izakaya where you can fully enjoy Hiroshima's specialty gourmet food and local sake.
The flavorful Hiroshima brand oyster "Kusatsu Oyster" can be enjoyed in various styles such as grilled, steamed, or fried. My favorite is the "steamed oyster," which makes the meat plump and juicy. My friends from overseas were very fond of the fried oysters and oyster tempura.
Another dish I want you to try is the specialty "grilled conger eel" topped with sweet soy sauce-based sauce. I always enjoy it with dry sake from Hiroshima.
The lemon sour made with half a Hiroshima-grown lemon also pairs well with any meal and is highly recommended.

Okkundou Mazemen
Source:Tabelog
"Okkundou Mazemen" is a must-visit for ramen lovers. Mazemen is ramen without soup, where you mix sauce, oil, and toppings together with the noodles. Compared to regular ramen where you enjoy the soup, mazemen is characterized by letting you enjoy the texture and flavor of the noodles as well as the deliciousness of the toppings.
Okkundou's Mazemen features a special sauce rich in dashi umami and firm, chewy thick noodles. Another attractive point is that you can customize it to your preference by choosing the noodle amount, temperature, spiciness, and toppings.
Adding cheese to the basic toppings (roasted pork, egg, green onion) is my favorite. Please give it a try!

Hiroshima Akayakien Ekinishi Honten
Source:Tripadvisor
"Hiroshima Akayaki en" is an izakaya where you can enjoy Hiroshima specialties like okonomiyaki cooked on a teppan grill. Located in "Ekinishi," the dining district right by Hiroshima Station, it's bustling with locals coming from work.
The first thing I order with beer is the Hiroshima specialty "Gansu." Gansu, made by mixing minced white fish with chili pepper and onion then deep-frying it, offers a crispy texture and the umami of fish. The "Koune," thinly sliced rare wagyu brisket quickly grilled, is also superb.
If you want to enjoy the live excitement of food being boldly cooked on the teppan right in front of you, I recommend the counter seats!

Seasonal Dishes and Grilled Food "Tsukiakari"
Source:Tabelog
When passing by "Tsukiakari," located near Peace Memorial Park, you'll find yourself drawn in by the savory aroma. "Tsukiakari," with its eye-catching appearance resembling an elegant traditional Japanese house, is a popular restaurant serving conger eel dishes and grilled food—a perfect choice for your Hiroshima dinner in 2026.
The "special conger eel rice," popular even among locals, spreads across your palate with a perfect balance of fragrant grilled conger eel, white rice, and sweet soy sauce-based sauce.
My recommended point is that you can enjoy it in various ways with just one bowl—adding condiments or pouring dashi broth over it.
Please enjoy the "aburi-yaki" (flame-grilled dishes), where you grill Hiroshima seafood and meat yourself on a net, together with Hiroshima's local sake!

Wadato Hiroshima Ekimae

Wadatou is a specialty shop dedicated to tonkotsu ramen.
Their rich tonkotsu soup is carefully simmered using broth made from premium brand Agu pork. It has deep umami and richness without being heavy, making it so delicious that you'll want to drink every last drop.
My recommended highlight is the ultra-thin noodles that enhance the flavor of the soup. These noodles are custom-ordered from a famous noodle factory in Hiroshima, made with carefully selected ingredients to perfectly complement the soup.
If it's your first visit, I recommend the standard Agu Pork Ramen. I always add bean sprouts and green onions as toppings. You can enjoy the crisp texture!

Koba

When I want to enjoy dinner with drinks as the main focus, I visit Koba. This bar has a hidden gem atmosphere, and since the owner is well-versed in music, it's popular among people in the music industry.
One of the reasons I love this bar is the extensive food menu. The popular Chili Carbonara features an addictive collaboration of spicy and creamy flavors. With a lineup of authentic Italian-based dishes, it's wonderful that you can enjoy a proper meal along with your drinks.
Above the counter, messages from customers around the world are posted. Why not leave your own message as a travel memory?

Kome Kome Shokudo

For those who want to savor the deliciousness of Japanese rice, I recommend Kome Kome Shokudo. Centered on Hiroshima Prefecture's premium brand rice, you can enjoy the most delicious rice of the season through their Teishoku meals.
Teishoku is a set meal consisting of rice, soup, a main dish, and small side dishes. It's a classic Japanese dining style that allows you to easily enjoy a nutritionally balanced meal.
At this restaurant, you can choose from various side dishes that complement their prized rice, including meat, vegetables, and fish.
My recommended side dishes:
- Tori no Karaage (fried chicken)

Source:Official website
For authentic Japanese cuisine, SENSUI located inside the Hilton Hotel is highly recommended. The sophisticated interior with wood-grain accents is divided into three sections: kaiseki cuisine, sushi, and teppanyaki.
When I visited in spring, I chose the teppanyaki and savored large abalone and wagyu beef. There are various courses and special deals available each season, so be sure to check their website.
Another attractive feature is their selection of rare sake that is difficult to obtain in Japan, as well as premium wines carefully selected by sommeliers—exclusive beverages you can only enjoy here.
Private rooms are also available, making it perfect for those who want to enjoy a relaxed meal in a private setting.

When I want to have a relaxed dinner, I visit the Italian restaurant MoreThan Hiroshima. Although it's located inside a hotel, I love how it maintains a pleasantly casual and comfortable atmosphere.
Another appealing point is that you can enjoy authentic flavors in a cozy atmosphere. In addition to their signature pizzas baked in a large oven, they offer appetizers, pasta, and meat dishes—everything is absolutely delicious.
My favorite vongole bianco is packed with the rich flavors of Hiroshima-grown clams and pairs perfectly with white wine. With its subdued lighting creating a wonderful ambiance, dinner time is also great for using as a bar.

For a Deeper Experience of Hiroshima's Culture, History, and Traditions, We Recommend Exploring with a Local Tour!

If you want to gain deeper knowledge of Hiroshima's unique culture and history, tours with local guides are highly recommended.
Particularly for peace-related facilities such as the Atomic Bomb Dome, there are many things that cannot be understood just by looking around. In fact, when I guided tourists from overseas, they were pleased and told me, "I learned about the real Hiroshima that I couldn't understand from guidebooks."
With a guide, you can also efficiently enjoy Miyajima, one of Hiroshima's most popular tourist spots. After taking in the historical structures and beautiful nature, please enjoy the guide's recommended Miyajima cuisine.
