Experience the Spectacular Mt. Fuji Fireworks Festival 2025: Dates, Viewing Spots, and Travel Tips
Mt. Fuji, known as Japan's highest mountain, is truly a symbol of the nation. Registered as a World Heritage Site, this magnificent peak offers various natural experiences throughout the year. The area surrounding Mt. Fuji features numerous historical structures such as shrines and temples, allowing visitors to experience Japanese culture and traditions, which adds to its charm.
The region hosts many events unique to tourist destinations, and among them, the fireworks displays that showcase Mt. Fuji's majestic natural beauty are especially popular with international tourists.
In this article, we'll introduce fireworks displays around Mt. Fuji for each season. Some events even allow you to enjoy viewing Mt. Fuji and fireworks together, so please check them out!
Winter to Spring Fireworks Events Around Mt. Fuji
While fireworks displays in Japan are typically associated with summer, they are also held around Mt. Fuji from winter to spring. Here, we'll introduce three recommended fireworks festivals from January to April to help you plan your trip.
Lake Kawaguchi Winter Fireworks (January to February)
"Lake Kawaguchi Winter Fireworks" is a rare winter fireworks display. This event, held on weekends from late January to February for a total of 10 times, has become a winter tradition at Lake Kawaguchi.
The spectacular sight of approximately 1,800 fireworks launched with majestic Mt. Fuji in the background is an awe-inspiring view that can only be experienced here. The fireworks reflected in the winter lake create a romantic atmosphere.
Enjoying the blooming fireworks with a hot drink in hand amid the cold winter air is an experience unique to this season. The Mt. Fuji area gets very cold in January, so please dress warmly. After the fireworks, my recommended way to spend the evening is soaking in a hot spring to warm your body.
Enjoy the dynamic fireworks illuminating the clear winter night sky against the backdrop of Mt. Fuji!

"Mt. Fuji Day" Fireworks Display (February)
February 23 is "Mt. Fuji Day," established based on the Japanese wordplay of 2 (fu), 2 (ji), 3 (san). To celebrate Mt. Fuji Day, numerous events are held in the surrounding areas.
"Mt. Fuji Day" Commemorative Events:
- Mt. Fuji Photo Contest
- Free distribution of 3,776 rice balls (matching Mt. Fuji's altitude in meters)
- Related events at "Mishima Sky Walk," Japan's largest pedestrian suspension bridge
- Tours exploring historical sites around Mt. Fuji
This time of year, when the air is clear, is said to be when Mt. Fuji looks most beautiful throughout the year. Please enjoy experiencing various aspects of this iconic mountain.
This day also marks the final day of the "Lake Kawaguchi Winter Fireworks," and the finale fireworks display is even more spectacular. Let's celebrate "Mt. Fuji Day" with the dignified winter silhouette of Mt. Fuji and gorgeous fireworks lighting up the night sky!

Mt. Fuji Fireworks vs Speedway (March)
Source:PR TIMES
"Mt. Fuji Fireworks vs Speedway" is an event held in March at "Fuji Speedway," a circuit with a rich history in Japan.
The highlight of this fireworks display is the powerful production utilizing the 1.5 km home straight. The opening ceremony begins with multiple fireworks launched vigorously, followed by a program with an engaging storyline to entertain spectators.
My recommendation is the vibrant segment themed around "spring." The spring fireworks launched to light music create an exciting atmosphere different from other seasonal displays, with Mt. Fuji providing a breathtaking backdrop.
Another spectacular program unique to the circuit features "deko-tora" (decorated trucks) - elaborately decorated long-distance trucks racing through the circuit.
Enjoy this uniquely different fireworks experience with Mt. Fuji majestically overlooking the festivities!

The Spectacular Fireworks Mt. Fuji 2025 - World Fireworks Expo (April)
Source:Official website
The "World Fireworks Expo" held in April is an event where Japan's leading fireworks artists and famous fireworks artists from around the world gather. This festival has the concept of "Fully Sensory Fireworks Experienced Through the Five Senses," offering various ways to enjoy through all five senses:
Sight: Collaboration of snow-capped Mt. Fuji, cherry blossoms, and magnificent fireworks creating a breathtaking visual spectacle
Hearing: Powerful sounds of colorful fireworks echoing across the majestic Mt. Fuji landscape
Smell: Fresh scent of spring flowers and new greenery surrounding the Mt. Fuji area
Touch: The impact of fireworks felt throughout your body as they illuminate the Mt. Fuji night sky

My recommendation is experiencing the impact of fireworks through 'touch.' For an efficient and deep exploration of Mt. Fuji area, we recommend a private tour with a local guide
If you want to make the most of your time sightseeing around the home of Japan's famous fireworks, why not join a private tour? We recommend a day trip from Tokyo where dedicated guides and drivers who know the local Mt. Fuji area well will show you around the scenic spots where fireworks events are held throughout the year.
Tour plan carefully selected by local guides:
- Enjoy photogenic spectacular views of Mt. Fuji where many fireworks events take place
- Harvest & taste fresh wasabi at a wasabi farm
- Savor an exquisite lunch using local ingredients and coffee brewed with Mt. Fuji's natural water
- Stroll around Mt. Fuji's 5th Station or visit historic shrines and waterfalls
- Experience sake and wine tasting at a brewery
My top recommendation for this tour is that there's no worry about transfers between transportation or time loss. During travel, you can relax while listening to the guide's explanations about the history of Mt. Fuji fireworks displays and local traditions.
Even in case of rain, the guide will flexibly adapt, so you can enjoy efficiently regardless of the weather—perfect for planning your visit around the spectacular Mt. Fuji fireworks events!

Mt. Fuji-Kawaguchiko Mountain Opening Festival Fireworks (July)
Source:Home of Fujisan, Yamanashi
The top runner of summer fireworks events is the 'Mt. Fuji-Kawaguchiko Mountain Opening Fireworks Festival.' This fireworks festival, which has continued since 1977, has become a summer tradition announcing the opening of Mt. Fuji for climbing. The sight of about 2,000 fireworks being launched one after another with Mt. Fuji and the lake in the background is truly spectacular.
The fireworks festival starts at 8 p.m., but at the venue, you can enjoy food trucks and stages featuring dance, live performances, and traditional performing arts from daytime. Why not arrive early and fully enjoy the event? We also recommend strolling around the poplar trees and Kawaguchiko Bridge in the area to get the best views of both Mt. Fuji and the fireworks display.

The production synchronizes the timing of the fireworks with the music, creating an experience that feels like watching a complete story unfold against the backdrop of Mt. Fuji.
In 2024, the show masterfully expressed a fantastical world primarily featuring "Frozen," captivating audiences. The Disney world spreading across the night sky offers a dreamlike experience that can only be enjoyed at this event, with Mt. Fuji creating a majestic silhouette against the brilliant fireworks.
Original merchandise featuring Disney characters and fireworks designs makes for recommended souvenirs.

Lake Yamanaka Hokou Festival Fireworks (August)
In August, the "Summer Fuji Five Lakes Festival" is held, with fireworks displays taking place in sequence at each of the five lakes surrounding Mt. Fuji. The opening event is the "Lake Yamanaka Hokou Festival." This festival commemorates the souls of those who died in service and prays for protection from misfortune. With its meaning of gratitude to the lake, this event has been held since the Taisho era (1912-1926) and is a long-cherished fireworks display at Lake Yamanaka.
During the day, memorial ceremonies and Shinto rituals are held, and you can enjoy stage events such as band performances and traditional Japanese drumming by local middle school students.
As dusk falls and night comes, approximately 10,000 fireworks color the night sky, gloriously launching the "Summer Fuji Five Lakes Festival." The spectacular fireworks with Mt. Fuji in the background create a truly breathtaking scene.
Lake Yamanaka is also known as a spot for beautiful sunsets, so please enjoy that as well!

Saiko Lake Ryugu Festival Fireworks (August)
Source:Kohan Camp Jo
The "Saiko Lake Ryugu Festival Fireworks" is held on August 2nd. This event, the second day of the "Summer Fuji Five Lakes Festival," is a festival for Ryugu Shrine, which enshrines the deity of water.
My recommended highlight is the "floating lanterns." About 500 lanterns are lit and float on the lake creating a mystical atmosphere, while approximately 1,000 dynamic fireworks are launched into the sky. With Mt. Fuji visible in the distance, these fireworks create an unforgettable Japanese summer experience.
During the day, you can enjoy a typical Japanese festival at the event plaza, with shaved ice, yakisoba noodles, yo-yo fishing, and more. The salt-grilled Himemasu (a type of salmon) caught in Lake Saiko is absolutely delicious.
Though not a very large-scale event, if you want to enjoy fireworks in a relaxed atmosphere, please do visit the Saiko Lake fireworks display!
Information:
- Schedule: August 2, 2025
- Access: Take the Fuji Kyuko Line to "Kawaguchiko Station," then transfer to the Lake Saiko circular bus and get off at "Komakata" bus stop

Motosuko Lake Kamiko Festival Fireworks (August)
Source:Official website
The "Motosuko Lake Kamiko Festival Fireworks" adorns the third day of the "Summer Fuji Five Lakes Festival." At Lake Motosuko, known for its highly transparent water, you can see the beautiful reflection of fireworks on the lake's surface, with Mt. Fuji creating an iconic backdrop to this spectacular display.
My recommended point is the powerful "sound" of the fireworks. Since Lake Motosuko is surrounded by mountains on three sides, the sound of the fireworks resonates impressively.
If there are no clouds, another attractive point is being able to view Mt. Fuji together with the fireworks. Please try taking some photos of this magnificent scene!
The event starts in the evening, and you can enjoy children's portable shrines (mikoshi) and elegant jazz performances on stage. I also recommend relaxing and waiting for the fireworks while watching the sunset.

- Access: Take the Fuji Kyuko Line to "Kawaguchiko Station," then transfer to a regular bus and get off at "Motosuko" bus stop

Fireworks Festivals Around Mt. Fuji (August 2025)
Shojiko Lake Cool Lake Festival Fireworks (August)
Source:Home of Fujisan, Yamanashi
Among the "Summer Fuji Five Lakes Festival" events, my personal favorite is the "Cool Lake Festival Fireworks" held at Shojiko Lake. While this is the smallest of the five festivals, it offers a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere with fireworks perfectly timed to guitar melodies and jazz rhythms. Enjoy these beautiful Mt. Fuji fireworks with a drink in hand for a truly relaxing experience.
One of my favorite aspects is how close the viewing area is to the launch site, allowing you to appreciate the fireworks from an incredibly close distance. You'll feel as if the fireworks are blooming right above your head!
This is an adult-oriented fireworks display where you can leisurely enjoy music and fireworks on a midsummer night. Please come and experience it!

- Access: Take the Fujikyu Line to "Kawaguchiko Station," then transfer to a bus and get off at "Shojiko" bus stop

Lake Kawaguchiko Festival Fireworks (August)
Source:Home of Fujisan, Yamanashi
The "Lake Kawaguchiko Festival Fireworks," which serves as the finale of the "Summer Fuji Five Lakes Festival," is a historic celebration with over 100 years of tradition since 1917. It's known as a major event symbolizing summer at Lake Kawaguchiko. Approximately 10,000 spectacular fireworks are launched, making it a fitting anchor event for the Fuji Five Lakes Festival.
My recommended highlights:
- "Musical Fireworks" featuring choreographed displays set to music with storytelling elements
- "Giant Starmine" with powerful rapid-fire sequences that create an impressive spectacle
- "Large Launch Fireworks" that beautifully reflect on the lake's surface
Since the fireworks are launched from the lake, they're easily visible from any angle in the viewing areas. The rows of food stalls offer delicious treats including shaved ice made with Mt. Fuji's natural spring water.
Come enjoy the full Japanese summer experience at this signature fireworks festival of the Fuji Five Lakes!

Oshino Hakkai Festival (August)
Source:Official Instagram
The "Oshino Hakkai Festival" is a summer celebration held in Oshino Village. A fireworks display serves as the main event concluding this festival, which prays for the village's prosperity and peace.
What I especially want foreign tourists to see is the "Hachimoji-yaki" ceremony performed before the fireworks. This traditional event involves burning trees on the mountainside in the shape of the kanji character "八" (eight), with the purpose of praying for villagers' health and abundant harvests.
The subsequent fireworks display launches 5,888 fireworks, with the attraction being the variety of designs, including some featuring Mt. Fuji motifs.
"Oshino Hakkai," consisting of eight spring water ponds, is sourced from water that has flowed through Mt. Fuji's lava layers over many years. Please also enjoy the crystal-clear waters of this nationally designated natural monument.
Information:
- Date: August 8, 2025
- Access: Take the Fujikyu Line to "Mt. Fuji Station," transfer to a Fujikyu bus and get off at "Oshino Village Office" bus stop (about 5 minutes on foot)

Hakone, located about an hour's drive from Mt. Fuji, is also a popular hot spring tourist destination for international visitors. It offers numerous attractions including shrines, temples, museums, and natural beauty.

Fireworks Festivals at Spots with Mt. Fuji Views in Yamanashi
Here we introduce festivals related to "fire" held in Yamanashi Prefecture. We've selected four unique events, including traditional festivals with distinctive features and events with elaborate productions. From all these venues, you can enjoy spectacular views of Mt. Fuji while experiencing amazing fireworks displays.
Nanbu Fire Festival (August)
Source:Town Nambu
The "Nanbu Fire Festival" held at the Nanbu bridge riverbed near Mt. Fuji is a traditional summer event. It's a custom to safely send off the souls of ancestors who have returned during the summer vacation period, and also serves as a river memorial service and pest control.
My recommended highlight is the unique "Toss Torches" ceremony.
What is "Toss Torches"?
- A 10m tall pole with a straw basket tied to the top is erected on the riverbed
- Lit torches are spun around and thrown one after another toward the basket
- When a torch hits the basket, flames rise up and blaze brightly
The "Toss Torches" serve as a landmark for ancestral spirits to return to the afterworld without getting lost. The flying sparks from the blazing flames create a powerful spectacle.
When 108 bonfires are lit along both banks of the Fuji River for 2km, the festival reaches its peak excitement.
Don't miss this region's unique traditional event!

Shinmei Fireworks Festival (August)
Source:Official website
The "Shinmei Fireworks Festival" is held in August in Ichikawa Misato-cho, a town famous for fireworks. This event, which has been ranked #1 in "Amazing fireworks festivals that top-class pyrotechnicians absolutely recommend seeing," launches about 20,000 fireworks over 90 minutes.
You can fully enjoy dynamic fireworks such as super-large wide starmines and 20 consecutive large-size shell fireworks. Another attractive point is that the launch site is quite close to the viewing seats, allowing you to experience the power of fireworks going off right before your eyes. You can also enjoy modern fireworks with storytelling programs that collaborate with music.
My recommendation is the breathtaking grand finale. The large blooms of fireworks filling the entire summer night sky against the silhouette of Mt. Fuji will become an unforgettable memory.

Isawa Onsen Fireworks Festival (August)
Source:ITO YANAGI
The "Isawa Onsen Fireworks Festival" is a summer tradition held at Isawa Onsen, a popular hot spring area in Fuefuki city. It serves as the finale of the "Fuefuki City Summer Festival." The highlights include starmines launched in time with music and colorful extra-large fireworks.
This year's program is undecided, but last year's 60th anniversary event featured aerial shows using drones that captivated the audience. Enjoy this major event marking the end of summer, where fireworks light up the night sky with Mt. Fuji creating a majestic backdrop.
Fuefuki city is also famous for producing peaches and grapes. You can enjoy various natural attractions throughout the seasons, such as peach blossoms in spring and fireflies in summer, so please visit even outside the fireworks festival season!

Seiryu Fireworks Festival (August)
Source:Official X
The "Seiryu Fireworks Festival" is a summer celebration held in Doshi village, known as the "Village of Water Sources." The spectacular fireworks that light up the sky in the midst of unspoiled nature feature elegant performances using sound and light. Because the area is surrounded by mountains, the sound echoes, allowing you to enjoy the fireworks with your entire body.
My recommendation is the special display called "Niagara," which spans both banks of the Doshi River. It's called this because the fireworks hanging in a row along the riverbank appear like a waterfall. The reflection of the fireworks on the surface of the Doshi River creates a magical atmosphere that provides a perfect vantage point to see Mt. Fuji illuminated by colorful fireworks in the distance.
Various food stalls open from 3 PM at the venue, offering local delicacies.
Please enjoy the beautiful fireworks over the cool, clear stream and experience a Japanese summer to the fullest!

Fireworks Festivals with Mt. Fuji Views in Shizuoka
Here are selected fireworks festivals held in Shizuoka Prefecture. Mt. Fuji can be seen from all these event venues. Why not add these long-cherished local summer festivals to your travel plans?
Nihon Daira Matsuri
Source:Official website
The Nihondaira Matsuri is held in the outdoor garden of Nippondaira Hotel. Nihondaira is also known as a premier night view spot in Shizuoka. The highlight of this event is the beautiful collaboration between fireworks and night scenery.
My top recommendation is the experience of lying on the garden lawn to watch the fireworks. The sensation of fireworks bursting directly above you is something you can only experience at this event, with Mt. Fuji creating a majestic silhouette against the illuminated night sky.
The 12,000 fireworks launched in rapid succession are truly impressive. There are also computer-controlled digital fireworks, making this a modern entertainment fireworks show that maximizes the use of fireworks, sound, and lighting.
Please come and enjoy this fireworks festival where you can experience the spectacular views of night scenery, Mt. Fuji, the sea, and fireworks all at once!

Numazu Summer Festival & Kano River Fireworks Festival
Source:Numadu City
The "Numazu Summer Festival & Kano River Fireworks Festival" is Numazu's representative summer event with 77 years of history. It began right after the war to cheer up the citizens of Numazu. This festival, held on the riverbed of the Kano River, attracts more than 300,000 visitors every year.
The appealing point is the variety of fireworks you can see, including extra-large star mines, underwater fireworks, and displays using sound and light. The Niagara finale is breathtakingly beautiful, creating a perfect frame for Mt. Fuji visible in the background on clear summer nights.
You can view from various places such as the riverbed or observation decks, but my recommended spot is the embankment along the river. It's relatively less crowded, so you can enjoy the view leisurely.
Many stalls line the shopping streets near Numazu Station and along the way to the venue. Please enjoy the classic festival foods too!

- Date: Late July 2025
- Location: Kano River Riverbed
- Access: 10 minutes on foot from JR "Numazu Station"

Fuji Festival
Source:Yahoo! News
The "Fuji Festival" is a major summer event in Fuji City. This festival, closely connected with the local community and citizens, offers various programs to enjoy summer.
The highlight I recommend is the "Citizens' Grand Dance." Everyone in town enjoys dancing to Fuji City's traditional folk song "Fuji Bayashi" and "FUJI Samba." Please try dancing together with the locals!
The festival culminates in a powerful fireworks display. Features like "Message Fireworks," launched with messages collected from citizens, are unique to the Fuji Festival, which values community. The view of Mt. Fuji standing majestically behind the brilliant fireworks creates an unforgettable scene.
The continuous torrential finale lighting up the summer night sky will surely become a memorable sight from your time in Japan. Please come visit the Fuji Festival, created by everyone in the community!
