Ginza Events September 2026: Best Art Exhibitions, Museums & Cultural Experiences in Tokyo
Tokyo is home to countless spots, from bustling entertainment districts like Shibuya and Harajuku, to neighborhoods that come alive at night like Shinjuku and Roppongi, to areas that preserve traditional old-town charm like Asakusa and Kanda.
While Tokyo is a city packed with appeal, it's also true that increasing tourism development has made it harder for visitors to experience the "real Tokyo." In other words, instead of enjoying Tokyo like a local, tourists are often limited to experiencing only the touristy side of the city.
That's exactly why I want you to explore the city with locals who know the real Tokyo. With tours from Magical Trip—winner of Tripadvisor's The Best of The Best in both 2024 and 2025—you can make that happen.

In Ginza, where you can enjoy some of the best Japanese cuisine in the country, what I especially want you to try is sushi and wagyu beef. If you’d like to experience top-tier Japanese food at exclusive, hard-to-book restaurants, be sure to join the “Finest Quality Sushi & Tempura Dining Experience in Ginza” or the “Wagyu Beef & Sake Pairing Foodie Tour in Ginza.”
The Tokyo Bar Hopping Night Tour in Shinjuku, a back-to-back winner of The Best of The Best for two consecutive years, lets you safely enjoy spots beloved by locals in famous Shinjuku areas like Kabukicho and Omoide Yokocho.

Two Breathtakingly Beautiful Events in Ginza in September That the Author Has Been Eagerly Awaiting
Starry Sky Summer Festival

How about this event to enjoy the lingering atmosphere of summer in September when it's still hot? The "Starry Sky Summer Festival" is a summer festival held inside a planetarium dome. Once inside, images of a starry sky and fireworks are alternately projected at 20-minute intervals, allowing you to enjoy a romantic mood under the summer night sky.
There are also many festival food and game stalls, and lottery games and shooting games with luxurious prizes are popular even among adults. My recommendations are limited foods with cute names and delicious taste, such as "Fireworks Float," "Stardust Candy Apple," and "Full Moon Jelly."
Another attractive point is that admission is free and you can enter and exit at any time you like. It's also recommended to stop by between shopping in Ginza or during free time before tours.
Information:
- Schedule: Around September
- Access: Get off at "Yurakucho Station" on JR lines (3-minute walk) / Get off at "Ginza Station" on Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, Marunouchi Line, Hibiya Line (1-minute walk)
- Admission: Free (some paid activities available)

Summer Art Aquarium Exhibition 2026

In Japan, "goldfish" are a very familiar sight during the summer season. At outdoor stalls during summer festivals, a classic game called "Kingyo-sukui" — where players use a small net made with thin paper to scoop goldfish from the water — captivates both children and adults alike.
For the Japanese, goldfish have been a symbol of summer since the 1600s, cherished for the sense of coolness one feels watching them drift gracefully through the water during the hot season.
The Art Aquarium Exhibition takes this tradition and evolves it into contemporary art. The moment you step inside, a fantastical space unfolds before you, created through light, sound, and fragrance, where colorful goldfish swim elegantly through stunning aquarium art installations.
A special exhibition is held every summer, drawing an enormous number of visitors. Having visited myself, I was completely enchanted by the dreamlike atmosphere born from the fusion of Japanese tradition and modern art.
Why not take a break from your Ginza shopping and let the goldfish art soothe your senses in the cool interior?
- Access: Directly from Exit A7 of Ginza Station (Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, Marunouchi Line, Hibiya Line)
- Admission: Web-exclusive tickets ¥2,500 / On-site ticket machine ¥2,700

Culture and Arts Events to Enjoy in the Ginza and Marunouchi Area in September — Ginza Event September 2026
Edo JAZZ

"Edo JAZZ" is a live music event where Japan's top young jazz musicians gather once a year in Ginza to reinterpret jazz standards through a contemporary sensibility.
The live performances take place at "Kanze Noh-gakudo," located inside the Ginza commercial complex GINZA SIX. A Noh-gakudo is a dedicated theater for performing "Noh," a traditional Japanese masked dance-drama with approximately 600 years of history.
What makes this event so compelling is the chance to experience cutting-edge jazz in a prestigious venue that ordinarily hosts Noh and the traditional comedy art form "Kyogen."
With only a few meters separating the stage from the audience, you can sense the performers' every breath and the movement of their fingertips — an intimacy that simply cannot be found in large concert halls.
For music lovers, this is truly an event not to be missed.
- Schedule: TBD
- Access: 2-minute walk from Ginza Station (Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, Hibiya Line, Marunouchi Line)
- Admission: From ¥6,600

TOKYO Wasshoi

"TOKYO Wasshoi" is an event where festival groups from Tokyo and all across Japan gather on Gyoko-dori Avenue, just steps from Tokyo Station.
The event name "Wasshoi" refers to the chant called out when carrying a "Mikoshi" at Japanese festivals. A Mikoshi is a portable shrine that carries a deity through the streets of a town — a uniquely Japanese cultural tradition requiring dozens of people to hoist it onto their shoulders.
The highlights of Tokyo's famous festivals, such as the Kanda Festival and Sanja Festival — events that are normally held only once a year — are condensed into these three days and presented one after another.
The greatest appeal is that you don't just watch — you can participate. When I visited, I was able to put on a "Happi," the traditional festival garment, and take a commemorative photo alongside a Mikoshi, making it a truly memorable experience.
- Schedule: TBD
- Access: 1-minute walk from the Marunouchi Central Exit of Tokyo Station
- Admission: Free

Tokyo Performing Arts Festival

This is a large-scale festival where you can enjoy a diverse range of performing arts — including theater and dance — all in one place during autumn in Tokyo.
With the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre in Ikebukuro as the main venue, stages extend beyond Tokyo's theaters to include cafés and public squares throughout the city, where works by both domestic and international artists are performed over approximately two months.
Many performances feature silent theater, dance pieces, and English subtitles, so even those who don't speak Japanese or who are experiencing performing arts for the first time can enjoy them fully.
With free events also available, even those who don't usually visit theaters can casually discover the world of performing arts as an extension of their regular city strolls.
I have attended myself, and it was a wonderful experience — a daily life enriched by art at every turn, filling the city with something truly special.
- Schedule: TBD
- Access: Various theaters and venues throughout Tokyo
- Admission: Varies by event
