Sapporo Events & Festivals July 2026: Summer Festival, Fireworks, Beer Gardens & More
I created this article because, as someone who loves art and traditional culture, I wanted to help you enjoy Kanazawa even more. By reading this article, you'll be able to make the most of your precious time in Japan, experiencing it efficiently and deeply.
I often enjoy bar hopping in Shinjuku, where many locals come out to drink every day, and each time I meet them, they share with me the establishments they truly love. However, during short stays, you don't get many opportunities like that.
That's why, we at Magical Trip offer local tours led by locals. Because our guides take you to spots where you can fully experience local culture and cuisine that only locals know about, Magical Trip's tours were selected as TripAdvisor's No.1 tours in 2024.

When you visit Sapporo, I highly recommend experiencing Hokkaido cuisine, which ranks among Japan's most popular regional foods, along with some exceptional drinks. I've actually traveled to Sapporo myself just for these culinary delights.
What I especially recommend is the Sapporo Bar Hopping Food Tour, where you explore Susukino—the district that comes alive at night—with local guides. By bar hopping at establishments truly beloved by locals, you'll be able to fully savor Sapporo's incredible seafood dishes and popular local cuisine.
I hope your Sapporo trip will be absolutely amazing!

5 Must-See Sapporo Events to Enjoy in July 2026
SAPPORO CRAFT BEER FOREST

SAPPORO CRAFT BEER FOREST is a beer festival where craft beers from across the country and around the world come together — a must-visit Sapporo event for anyone who loves beer.
A wide variety of beers from both Japan and abroad are available for purchase, which means for someone like me whose hobby is drinking craft beers from all over Japan, this is a Sapporo event in July 2026 that takes priority over any other plans.
My own obsession with craft beer began when I first visited SAPPORO CRAFT BEER FOREST right after turning 20 — the legal drinking age in Japan. I shared and sampled around 10 different beers with friends, and that experience opened my eyes to the depth of beer culture and helped me discover my personal preference for sour-style beers.
What makes the beer taste even better is the comfortable, natural breeze you can only feel at a ski resort in summer. In my opinion, no matter how premium the drink, nothing can compete with beer enjoyed while surrounded by the great nature of Hokkaido.
Whether you already love beer or you want to learn to love it, come and enjoy the finest craft beers at SAPPORO CRAFT BEER FOREST!
Information:
- Date: Early July 2026 (details TBD)
- Venue: Sapporo Bankei Ski Resort
- Address: 410 Bankei, Chuo-ku, Sapporo
- Access: Special shuttle bus available from Maruyama Koen Station on the Subway Tozai Line

Sapporo Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill Lavender Festival

July is also the season when the lavender fields at Sapporo Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill reach their peak bloom. A total of 1,000 lavender plants fill a 1,200 square meter field in a stunning display of color.
The lavender fields at Sapporo Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill are so vivid they look as if they were painted with a brush. The colors are so intense that rather than simply thinking "how beautiful," my first reaction was "are these actually real flowers?" It was an almost unbelievably gorgeous sight.
At the lavender fields, visitors can take part in a hands-on lavender harvesting experience. I was able to cut about 50 stems myself and later turned them into dried flowers at home. Being able to bring a tangible piece of the journey home with you is one of the truly appealing aspects of this event.
Information:
- Date: Typically early to mid-July each year
- Venue: Sapporo Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill
- Address: 1 Hitsujigaoka, Toyohira-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido
- Access: 10-minute walk from Fukuzumi Station on the subway
- Admission: Free (separate admission fee for Sapporo Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill applies)
- Website: Sapporo Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill Official Website
Yonbangai Festival

The Yonbangai Festival transforms the main boulevard into a pedestrian-only zone, with events taking place throughout the area.
The highlight of this Sapporo event is the Mikoshi (portable shrine) procession. The Mikoshi is carried through the streets with lively calls and rhythmic steps — it's an incredibly powerful sight, so be sure to get up close and take it in.
Throughout the event area, you'll also find food stalls and street performers at every turn.
My personal recommendation is the food stalls. You can enjoy classic Japanese festival mini-games like goldfish scooping, where you try to catch goldfish using a net made of paper, or a shooting gallery, as well as classic Japanese festival foods like popcorn and kakigori (shaved ice).
Summer festivals are one of Japan's traditional cultural experiences, often depicted in anime and manga. Why not take the opportunity to experience one for yourself?

- Date: TBD for 2026 (typically held in July; in 2025 it was held on Sunday, July 13)

SAPPORO CITY JAZZ

Sapporo City Jazz operates under the slogan "Making Sapporo a city of jazz," organizing a variety of events both within and outside of Sapporo throughout the year.
The July Sapporo event is the PARK JAZZ LIVE CONTEST. Around 10 bands that have passed a preliminary screening compete in a high-stakes live competition, with a spot at an international festival on the line. If you're a jazz fan, don't miss the chance to witness the incredibly high-level performances delivered by these audition-qualifying bands.
Of course, this event is also highly recommended for those who don't know much about jazz. I normally only listen to J-pop, but last year's (2025) PARK JAZZ LIVE CONTEST was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I was able to feel both the soothing, calming melodies and the raw energy that only a live performance can deliver.
If you love music in any form, the PARK JAZZ LIVE CONTEST is a Sapporo event in July 2026 you simply should not miss.
