If You Want to Enjoy Both Skiing and Sightseeing in Sapporo, Make Careful Plans!

For those who want to enjoy both skiing and sightseeing in Sapporo, it's essential to make careful plans in advance. This is because Sapporo city center and Niseko, the area with world-famous ski resorts, are about 2 hours apart by car, so you need to create a schedule that considers travel time.

To enjoy both activities within limited time, it's important to research the operating hours of ski resorts and tourist spots, as well as transportation methods beforehand. Especially when enjoying skiing in Niseko, it takes a full day including travel time, so carefully consider how to use your time.

By planning thoroughly, you can fully enjoy both skiing and sightseeing in Sapporo.

Day 1: Enjoy Niseko, One of Hokkaido's Premier Ski Areas

On Day 1, let's fully enjoy Niseko, an area where famous ski resorts in Hokkaido are concentrated. Niseko is a resort destination located about 2 hours by car from Sapporo.

Niseko is known as a place where you can enjoy abundant nature throughout the year. Especially in winter, tourists from around the world visit seeking the ski slopes. The snow at Niseko's ski resorts is characterized by powder snow with a smooth, silky texture, making it ideal for skiing.

Besides skiing, this resort area offers cuisine made with fresh local vegetables and meat.

Access from Sapporo to Niseko:
- Bus: About 3 hours
- Train: About 2.5 hours
- Car: About 2 hours

6:00 AM: Depart from Sapporo

Day 1 starts from Sapporo Station. There are mainly three ways to get from Sapporo Station to Niseko, each with its own characteristics.

If you use the express bus "Highway Niseko Go Bus," you can access directly from several bus stops in front of Sapporo Station. If you use the train, you'll transfer between lines such as the Hakodate Main Line and Niseko Express. With a rental car, you can reach Niseko in about 2 hours from Sapporo Station.

Please choose the method that best suits your preferences and budget.

9:00 AM: Enjoy Skiing in Niseko

Once you arrive in Niseko, let's immediately enjoy skiing. The Niseko area has not only ski slopes but also many resort-style restaurants and shops.

Here, we'll introduce the four ski resorts that represent Niseko: "Niseko United." Each ski resort has different characteristics and attractive features. Please find the perfect ski resort based on your skill level and preferred style of enjoyment.

Niseko Annupuri International Ski Area

Niseko Annupuri International Ski Area is a beginner-friendly ski resort characterized by gentle slopes and wide courses. All 13 courses consist of 4 advanced, 6 intermediate, and 3 beginner runs, and the intermediate course angles are not too steep, so beginners can also enjoy them.

The ski resort has a simple and easy-to-understand layout, so even when I visited as a ski beginner, I could enjoy it without getting lost. At the base, there's a kids' sledding course, making it perfect for families with small children.

At Niseko Annupuri International Ski Area, on clear days, you can see the beautiful scenery of Mt. Yotei in front of you, allowing you to feel Hokkaido's magnificent nature while skiing.

However, the overall slope of the ski resort is gentle and the course widths are made broader, so even beginners can enjoy skiing with peace of mind without worrying about colliding with other skiers.

Beginners with no skiing experience can also learn basic falling and stopping techniques in the Beginner Ski Area before heading out to the general courses. Niseko Hanazono Resort offers excellent ski equipment rental services, and the attractive point is that you can choose equipment suited to your individual level and snow conditions.

This resort is recommended for beginners to intermediate skiers, or those who want to enjoy skiing with equipment perfectly suited to their needs.

This resort is recommended for advanced skiers or those who want to enjoy various activities.

~3:00PM: Departing from Niseko

After enjoying skiing to the fullest, let's depart from Niseko. Consider the time needed for returning ski equipment, changing clothes, and purchasing souvenirs, and depart with plenty of time to spare.

To ensure a smooth return from Niseko to Sapporo, it's reassuring to research bus and train schedules in advance, make seat reservations, or purchase tickets beforehand.

If using a rental car to return, please pay careful attention to driving on snowy roads and make an effort to depart early.

6:00PM: Enjoy bar hopping at Sapporo's nightlife spot "Susukino"

Upon returning to Sapporo, let's enjoy bar hopping at Sapporo's nightlife spot "Susukino." Susukino is a vibrant entertainment district located in central Sapporo. It is widely known as one of Japan's three major entertainment districts, alongside Tokyo's Kabukicho and Fukuoka's Nakasu.

Susukino has many restaurants, commercial facilities, and entertainment venues gathered together, showing particular liveliness during nighttime hours. There are also many Japanese drinking establishments called "Izakaya" lined up, making it a perfect area for bar hopping.
