Osaka Events March 2026: Festivals, Cherry Blossoms & Things to Do

Osaka events Published: Jan 29, 2026

In 2025, I made four research trips to Osaka where I personally experienced recommended spots for international visitors and local events. I created this guide to introduce the events that I found particularly captivating.Based on my experience, I've carefully selected only the events that I can wholeheartedly recommend.

Another reason for writing this article is the recent growing attention on Magical Trip tours, which offer a deeper experience of Osaka.

Popular tours like the "Osaka Bar Hopping Night Tour in Namba" and "Osaka Local Foodie Tour in Dotonbori and Shinsekai" are just as impressive as the "Tokyo Bar Hopping Night Tour in Shinjuku," which was ranked #1 among all tours on TripAdvisor in 2024.When visiting Osaka, I recommend trying Magical Trip tours to experience a more authentic side of the city.

Introduction

In March, Osaka transitions from the harshness of winter towards spring. While daytime temperatures are mild, mornings and evenings can still be chilly, so it's recommended to wear easily layerable clothing. As many people in Japan start new chapters of their lives in April, March in Osaka is bustling with shoppers preparing for new beginnings.

Osaka, Japan's second-largest city, is always teeming with people. The city's charm lies in its warm and friendly atmosphere, where even strangers, such as shop staff, actively engage in communication.

While March in Osaka may have fewer events, the cherry blossoms start blooming towards the end of the month, allowing visitors to enjoy "hanami" (cherry blossom viewing). In this article, we'll introduce you to events, hanami spots, and provide basic information, including dates and access to venues.

Vietnam Festival 2026 Osaka

Vietnam Festival 2026 Osaka

"Vietnam Festival 2026," held at Osaka Castle Park, is an event aimed at promoting the charms of Vietnam and cultural exchange. Having traveled to Vietnam before, I look forward to this event every year.

My main interest is definitely the Vietnamese cuisine. About 70 food stalls will be set up, offering authentic flavors of dishes popular in Japan such as banh mi and pho. The aromas of fish sauce and cilantro waft through the venue, stimulating your appetite.

The experience of trying on the traditional costume "Ao Dai" is also popular. There are also cute miscellaneous goods such as embroidered accessories unique to Vietnam.

Please also enjoy the plum blossoms in full bloom within the park. Don't miss this unique opportunity to experience Vietnamese culture while viewing Osaka Castle!

Popular Japanese manufacturers that are well-known overseas, such as HONDA, YAMAHA, SUZUKI, and KAWASAKI, will all be gathered here. An attractive point is that you can actually sit on the latest models and unreleased models of motorcycles.

What I would like to recommend seeing are the demonstrations by professional riders and police motorcycle units. Please enjoy the powerful performances showcasing advanced riding techniques.

At the merchandise booths, a wide variety of specialized custom parts and more are available for sale. Some items are offered at event-exclusive prices, making it a must-see Osaka Event March 2026 for motorcycle enthusiasts.

Outdoor Fest

As a camping enthusiast, I look forward to the "Outdoor Fest" held at Expo '70 Commemorative Park every year. The latest camping gear, hiking gear, camping cars, and more will all be gathered here.

My recommendation is the booths where you can try various outdoor experiences.

(Examples from 2025 – Details for this year are TBD)
- Wood splitting
- Fire starting
- Electric kickboard test rides
- Hot air balloon rides

What I particularly enjoyed last year was the hot air balloon experience that floats up several tens of meters above the ground. Implementation for this year is undecided, but if you are interested, please check the official website.

The park venue also offers the attractive option of enjoying a picnic on the grassy lawn. You can also visit the "Tower of the Sun," which is popular among tourists.

This Osaka Event March 2026 is also recommended for families with small children.

5 Spots to Fully Enjoy Cherry Blossoms Blooming from Late March to Mid-April

Expo '70 Commemorative Park (9:30 am - 5:00 pm)

Expo '70 Commemorative Park
Source:Sankei

The Expo '70 Commemorative Park, selected as one of the "100 Best Cherry Blossom Viewing Sites" by the Japan Cherry Blossom Association, boasts about 5,500 cherry trees in full bloom.

The park's charm lies in its variety, offering 12 different types of cherry blossoms. While the Somei Yoshino, often featured in international media, is just one variety, the park allows you to discover a diverse range of unique and beautiful cherry blossoms with varying colors, petal counts, and blooming patterns.

As someone who visited the park multiple times last year, my top recommendation is the "Jindai Akebono" variety. You can enjoy these near the Eastern Plaza. The Jindai Akebono has a charming appearance with whitish centers and pink-tinged petal tips. I encourage you to observe them up close.

<Detailed Information>

The "Banpaku Park Cherry Blossom Festival" is also held at the Expo '70 Commemorative Park

Banpaku Park Cherry Blossom Festival

The "Banpaku Park Cherry Blossom Festival" is an annual event timed to coincide with the cherry blossom season (in 2024, it was held from March 20 to April 7). It offers a plethora of content and events to maximize your cherry blossom enjoyment.

My top recommendation is the illuminated cherry blossom avenue. At night, the cute and beautiful daytime appearance transforms into a chic and mysterious atmosphere. The 200-meter-long illuminated path allows you to immerse yourself in the ambiance as you walk under the cherry blossoms.

Another attractive point is the numerous food trucks and stalls that set up from late morning to night. Why not enjoy some Japanese street food amidst the falling cherry blossom petals?

Osaka Castle Park (9:00 am - 5:00 pm)

Osaka Castle Park

Osaka Castle Park, often featured in international media, is one of Japan's premier cherry blossom viewing spots. You can enjoy about 3,000 cherry trees, primarily of the Somei Yoshino variety.

Cherry trees are planted throughout the park, allowing you to enjoy the blossoms anywhere. However, my personal recommendation is the area around the eastern outer moat, located on the east side of the main tower. Here, cherry trees line the moat, letting you enjoy the reflection of the blossoms on the water surface and the floating petals. The water truly enhances the beauty of the cherry blossoms.

Additionally, from the eastern outer moat, you can view the main tower through the cherry blossoms. Why not take in the combination of traditional Japanese architecture and beautifully blooming cherry blossoms, experiencing the timeless beauty of Japan?

If you are interested in Osaka Castle, check the article below! I summarized in more details and how I felt there.

Osaka Jo Castle (Osaka Castle) w/Access, Ticket, Admission fee
Osaka Jo Castle is a must-see in Japan, offering rich history, stunning views, and seasonal beauty. Its 400-year-old architecture houses a museum, and nearby Osaka Castle Park showcases cherry blossoms and autumn foliage.

Enjoy Spectacular Night Cherry Blossoms at the "Nishinomaru Garden Cherry Blossom Night Viewing"

Night Cherry Blossoms

The Nishinomaru Garden is the most popular cherry blossom spot within Osaka Castle Park. As a paid area, it tends to be less crowded, allowing for a more relaxed cherry blossom viewing experience.

The most attractive feature of Nishinomaru Garden is its night cherry blossom illumination. This is the only area within the park where cherry blossoms are illuminated, attracting many tourists annually. The sight of Osaka Castle and the cherry blossoms seemingly glowing in the darkness is truly breathtaking.

Of course, the daytime cherry blossoms are also beautiful. This area has a particularly high concentration of cherry trees within Osaka Castle Park, filling your entire field of vision with a sea of pink blossoms. Here too, you can enjoy the combination of cherry blossoms and Osaka Castle.

In March, Osaka sheds its winter chill, offering the perfect weather for bar hopping and savoring the city's incredible food scene. I often visit Osaka during March and April myself, indulging in the city's excellent cuisine paired with drinks.

Here are my two recommended tours for March in Osaka. If you're planning to visit Osaka in March, make sure to fully experience this culinary capital as it springs to life!

Osaka Mint Bureau (9:00 am - 4:45 pm)

Osaka Mint Bureau
Source: Official website

The Osaka Mint Bureau is where you can enjoy the "Cherry Blossom Tunnel," one of Osaka's spring traditions. Along the 560-meter path from the south gate to the north gate, 338 cherry trees of 134 varieties bloom in profusion. Walking this path while admiring the cherry blossoms is known as the "Cherry Blossom Tunnel" experience.

The main attraction of the Cherry Blossom Tunnel is undoubtedly the diversity of cherry blossom varieties. You can find many rare varieties not commonly seen elsewhere, allowing you to appreciate the individuality and depth of cherry blossoms.

Another delightful aspect is walking on the pink carpet created by fallen petals. As the Cherry Blossom Tunnel requires advance online registration, be sure to make your reservation before your trip to ensure you can closely observe these precious cherry blossoms.

If you couldn't secure a reservation, head to Sakuranomiya Bridge. Even from outside the venue, you can enjoy the seemingly endless rows of cherry trees as far as the eye can see.

Kema Sakuranomiya Park (24 hours)

Kema Sakuranomiya Park
Source:Wikipedia

Kema Sakuranomiya Park is a riverside park built on the floodplain, featuring 4,800 cherry trees. This 4.2 km long park has endless rows of cherry trees along the river. In many areas, the cherry blossoms protrude from both sides of the path, creating a tunnel-like effect.

The park preserves several old Western-style buildings from about 150 years ago. The collaboration between these buildings and the cherry blossoms is a charming point of Kema Sakuranomiya Park. The combination of stylish, dignified Western architecture and delicate cherry blossoms is perfect.

Another must-try experience is the cherry blossom viewing cruise. You can enjoy the cherry blossoms while slowly cruising along the river that flows alongside the park.

<Detailed Information>

Settsu Gorge Park (24 hours)

Settsu Gorge Park

Settsu Gorge Park, also known locally as "Cherry Blossom Park," is a beloved cherry blossom viewing spot among locals.

The park offers numerous cherry blossom spots. My first recommendation is the "Shidare-zakura" (weeping cherry) variety near the entrance. This variety is characterized by its branches that droop almost to the ground, forming beautiful thick pink pillars during the cherry blossom season.

The "Cherry Blossom Square" is another of my favorite spots. It has a particularly high concentration of cherry trees, with about 280 trees painting your view pink. There's also a large playground nearby, making it ideal for families. Why not enjoy some vigorous play or a delicious picnic amidst the dancing cherry blossom petals?

If you're interested in fashion and design, this Osaka event in March 2026 is highly recommended.

This exhibition spotlights the concept of "Surrealism" as it expanded into various genres including art, advertising, fashion, and interior design. It's a rare opportunity to view surrealist works from across Japan all in one place!

My personal recommendations are René Magritte's "The King's Museum" and "The Ready-made Bouquet." These two works, featuring the distinctive man in a bowler hat, have become representative masterpieces of Surrealism.

Since the exhibition is visually engaging, I encourage even those who aren't familiar with fashion or art to visit!

Ukiyo-e Immersive Art Exhibition OSAKA

The "Ukiyo-e Immersive Art Exhibition" allows you to experience traditional Japanese ukiyo-e in a three-dimensional space. Using cutting-edge technology, you can experience an immersive sensation as if you've stepped into the world of ukiyo-e.

The appealing highlight is the opportunity to enjoy over 300 works by artists popular overseas, such as Hokusai and Hiroshige, from different angles. When surrounded by the wall-spanning projection mapping, you'll feel as though you've traveled back in time to Japan from about 200 years ago.

The area I particularly recommend is the booth expressing "water," an essential element in Japanese ukiyo-e. Please experience the powerful waves and beautiful shimmering of water.

Since you can enjoy this exhibition using all five senses, it's also recommended for small children and those seeing ukiyo-e for the first time.

Sarah Morris: Transfer of Authority

Sarah Morris: Transfer of Authority

What I'm looking forward to this spring is the first retrospective exhibition in Asia by Sarah Morris, one of the leading artists in contemporary art.

She creates works themed around major cities such as New York, London, and Paris, and has produced numerous video and sculpture works in addition to paintings. This time, over 100 works created over more than 30 years are on display.

What I'm particularly looking forward to is the video work "Sakura," which captures Osaka during cherry blossom season from her unique perspective. It also focuses on places that aren't tourist spots, such as factories, research facilities, and subways. International tourists will be able to discover Osaka from a unique angle that you won't find in guidebooks.

If You Want to Experience Japan's Traditional "Hinamatsuri," Nearby Kyoto Is Highly Recommended

If You Want to Experience Japan's Traditional "Hinamatsuri," Nearby Kyoto Is Highly Recommended

March 3rd's "Hinamatsuri" (Girls' Day) is a traditional celebration wishing for the health and growth of girls. (The celebration for boys is on May 5th.) Since it falls during the season when peach blossoms bloom, it is also called "Momo no Sekku" (Peach Festival).

It is customary to display "hina dolls," which are believed to serve as substitutes that take on misfortune, and to eat "chirashi-zushi," which is topped with colorful ingredients such as sashimi and eggs.

Kyoto, located next to Osaka, hosts traditional Hinamatsuri events. If you're looking for an Osaka Event March 2026 to add to your itinerary, consider a short trip to neighboring Kyoto for these unique cultural experiences.

Nagashi-bina at Shimogamo Jinja

This traditional event is said to be the origin of Hinamatsuri. The highlight is placing hina dolls made of Japanese washi paper onto straw boats and floating them down the river. This ritual carries the meaning of transferring one's misfortunes onto the dolls and letting them float away. Members of the public can also participate by purchasing dolls for a fee.

This event is recommended for those who want to experience the elegant and traditional atmosphere of the original Hinamatsuri.

You can also enjoy demonstrations of aristocratic games from the Heian period (794–1185) and special kimono dressing from that era.

Tea and sweets are served, making this a Hinamatsuri filled with a festive and enjoyable atmosphere.

To Deeply Enjoy Kyoto's Culture, Have a Local Guide Show You Around!

Magical Trip

If you want to learn more deeply about Kyoto's culture, why not join a tour led by a local guide? You'll explore hiking courses known only to guides who know Kyoto inside and out, over the course of approximately 3 hours.

The highlight is deliberately leaving the paved paths to walk through the forest trails surrounding Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine. At the shrine's iconic red torii gates, try taking unique photos from angles recommended by the guide.

A foreign friend of mine was moved by the breathtaking beauty of the bamboo grove visited on this tour.

Rather than simply visiting the popular tourist spot Fushimi Inari, you can enjoy it more deeply by taking time to walk around the surrounding natural environment. How about enjoying a leisurely hike while feeling the refreshing breeze of early spring?
