12 Japanese Regional Food Festivals 2025 in Tokyo: Ramen, Sushi, Hokkaido Foods etc.

Tokyo events Published: Nov 25, 2025

Since moving to a neighborhood adjacent to Shinjuku in 2024, I've been visiting cities in Tokyo almost daily to explore its appeal and discover spots I can recommend to tourists. I updated this article in 2025 to incorporate my findings from this research, along with the latest information for 2025.

Another reason for updating the article is the growing interest in tours that allow visitors to safely and deeply experience Tokyo. Because Tokyo is a city that continues to develop at a dizzying pace and in complex ways, tourists visiting for the first time find it extremely difficult to discover the truly excellent spots beloved by locals.

This is why food tours led by knowledgeable local guides who know Tokyo inside and out have been gaining popularity, as they take visitors through Tokyo's maze of establishments.

In fact, Magical Trip's tour, which ranked #1 among all tours on Tripadvisor, has been receiving numerous applications.

Join a Magical Trip local tour to be guided by Tokyo experts to beloved restaurants serving exceptional food. They'll take you to hidden gems that are difficult for first-time visitors to Japan to discover, ensuring your trip becomes an unforgettable memory.

The recommended tour is the Tokyo Bar Hopping Night Tour in Shinjuku, which was ranked #1 on Tripadvisor among all tours in 2024. Other options include food tours in Ginza where you can enjoy top-quality Japanese cuisine, as well as the tour featuring excellent yakiniku (grilled meat) and sushi.

We hope you'll have a wonderful time experiencing everything Tokyo has to offer by joining a Magical Trip tour!

Introduction

Tokyo is a city filled with various attractions, from traditional shrines and temples to pop culture sacred sites like manga and games, and bustling entertainment districts lined with restaurants, always crowded with tourists. Tokyo's climate is clearly divided into four seasons, allowing visitors to enjoy different scenery throughout the year.

Did you know that in Tokyo, the center of Japan, there are must-see events gathering famous foods from all over the country held every month? In this article, we will introduce noteworthy food events at the Tokyo Regional Food Festival 2025 where you can "enjoy specialty dishes from all over Japan," along with highlights, basic information, schedules, and access to the venues.

12 Recommended Food Events Held in Tokyo in 2025 Where You Can Enjoy Specialty Dishes from All Over Japan

Throughout Japan, there are specialty dishes (regional cuisines) that differ according to the local character and culture of each region. Dishes using locally sourced ingredients or those that inherit traditions passed down from ancient times are all uniquely distinctive.

Here, we will introduce 9 recommended food events to be held in Tokyo in 2025 where you can enjoy specialty dishes from all over Japan.

Original Famous Ekiben Festival (Station Bento)

feature_ph101_pc.png
Source:Official website

Ekiben refers to bento boxes sold for enjoyment during train journeys. The "Ekiben Fair" at Keio Department Store has been a beloved annual event since its first edition was held in February 1966.

At the venue, visitors can purchase and take home approximately 350 varieties of ekiben gathered from all over Japan. (Note: eating on-site is not permitted.)

One of the event's attractions is that approximately 100 varieties of bento are actually prepared on-site at the venue. While watching them being made right before your eyes, you can enjoy observing the craftsmen's techniques and cooking processes.

There are also opportunities to speak directly with company presidents and staff from the bento-making companies, allowing you to learn about regional food culture.

On the other hand, bento boxes delivered daily from across Japan by air and land transport are often limited in quantity, making this a rare chance to encounter truly special items. Popular bento boxes often sell out within an hour of opening, so be sure to check the official website in advance.

The item that attracted particular attention in 2025 was the "6-Layer Millefeuille Bento." With rice and ingredients stacked in 6 layers, it offers a luxurious taste and beautiful presentation.

Additionally, three types of ekiben featuring brand-name beef such as "Omi Beef," "Kobe Beef," and "Saga Beef" also proved popular. I always enjoy bento featuring wagyu beef when I travel!

The "Shinkansen Travel Gourmet 6-Compartment Bento," which packages specialties from shinkansen stations into 6 compartments, and "Noto Oyster Rice" have also attracted attention from many visitors.

Furthermore, flavors from across the nation are assembled, including Hokkaido's Akkeshi Station "Ujiie Oyster Rice," Ishikawa Prefecture's Kanazawa Station "Snow Crab Rice Sushi in Arita-yaki Bowl," Saga Prefecture's Arita Station "Arita-yaki Curry" served in Arita-ware pottery, and Hiroshima Prefecture's Fukuyama Station "Uzumi Inari Don" featuring conger eel and octopus.

All of these allow you to enjoy local ingredients and traditional flavors unique to each region at your home or accommodation.

The simultaneously held National Delicacies Fair also features local gourmet foods beyond ekiben. This is an excellent opportunity to take home delicious items that are usually hard to obtain and experience "delicious journeys" across Japan.

The Furusato Gourmet Terrace ~Tohoku Festival~ (April) is an event held at Okachimachi Panda Square with the theme of "conveying the charm of the region through food," offering local gourmet foods and sake from Tohoku with the aim of regional revitalization.

Exquisite gourmet foods originating from Tohoku will be assembled at the venue:

- Morioka Cold Noodles (Iwate Prefecture)
- Yonezawa Beef (Yamagata Prefecture)
- Beef Tongue Steak (Miyagi Prefecture)
- Seafood Bowl (Aomori Prefecture)
- Grilled Sanriku Scallops (Iwate Prefecture)
and more

The grilled Sanriku scallops I ate were thick and satisfying, and with one bite, the aroma of the sea spread throughout my mouth for a blissful taste. I also purchased a set of four different types of sake to enjoy with the scallops. The selection includes rare fine sake that you usually can't drink, allowing you to experience a luxurious feeling.

By enjoying the food and local sake of Tohoku, this is a chance to support Tohoku from Tokyo and prevent the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011 from fading from memory. Please enjoy the event while praying for the revitalization of Tohoku!

"The Dried Noodle Grand Prix" is an event that broadly communicates the appeal of dried noodles from all over Japan. Producers bring their pride and joy dried noodles and compete in taste, texture, and arranged menu items to determine the best in Japan.

Dried noodles (kanmen) are noodles made by kneading wheat flour or buckwheat flour with water and salt, stretching them thin, and drying them.

Because they can be stored long-term, they have been familiar on Japanese dining tables since ancient times. Representative types include udon, soba, somen, and hiyamugi, with diverse varieties that have become unique cultures in each region.

The competition consists of two divisions: the "Premium Dried Noodles Division" and the "Arranged Menu Division." Visitors can also participate in voting. Choose your favorite noodles!

The "Premium Dried Noodles Division" allows you to taste simple, high-quality dried noodles made with particular attention to ingredients and manufacturing methods. You can compare the thickness, firmness, flavor, and throat-feel of noodles and enjoy discovering "they're so different!"

Entries include 100% buckwheat soba from Nagano Prefecture, tribute soba from Shimane Prefecture, cold hand-stretched Miwa somen from Nara Prefecture, hand-stretched Handa noodles from Tokushima Prefecture, kishimen from Aichi Prefecture, udon from Kagawa Prefecture, and even Chinese noodles to be enjoyed in soup.

All can be enjoyed easily at 250 yen per serving. Among these, somen and Handa noodles are familiar as summer staples in Japanese households, but may be novel for international visitors.

The "Arranged Menu Division" features many proud menu items with freely arranged dried noodles. From curry, salads, and Chinese-style dishes to unique menu items such as udon pie and cheese fondue, diverse flavors are assembled.

You'll encounter surprises and emotions like "I never knew you could eat it this way!" through unexpected combinations with ingredients. This division is 500 yen per serving.

Please try purchasing your favorite dried noodles as souvenirs. Being lightweight, easy to carry, and long-lasting, they're perfect as travel mementos. Through dried noodles, experience Japanese food culture and take home "delicious travel memories."

Flour Expo

Source:FASHION PRESS

"Flour Expo" is a gourmet event where Japan's "flour-based food culture" gathers in one place. You can taste diverse gourmet foods born from flour, including okonomiyaki, takoyaki, udon, soba, dim sum, bread, and matcha sweets.

Experience regional taste differences and cooking innovations through flour-based gourmet foods that Japanese people love.

Famous establishments representing Osaka appear at the venue.

For example, at "Ajinoya," a long-established restaurant in Osaka's Namba, you can enjoy the popular menu item "Beef Tendon Loaded Ajinoya Mixed Modern-yaki."

This is okonomiyaki layered with noodles and beef tendon, generously topped with fragrant sauce. The realism of watching it cook before your eyes and the rising aroma of the sauce stimulate your appetite.

Dotonbori's "Akaoni" is a takoyaki shop featured in the Michelin Guide. Their "Chapuchapu Takoyaki," takoyaki dipped in natural dashi broth, is popular for being delicious even when cold.

The "Taste Comparison" that lets you compare four varieties—sauce, rock salt, dashi soy sauce, and tartar sauce—is also recommended.

Furthermore, "Ikayaki Yamagen's" "Egg-Filled Ikayaki" is an exquisite dish combining squid with batter infused with yamaimo (Japanese yam) and dashi. The rich flavor of the original sauce is its charm.

Additionally, "matcha," which is gaining worldwide attention, is also a major highlight of Flour Expo. Against a background of health consciousness and growing interest in Japanese food, the popularity of matcha and powdered green tea is rising. At Flour Expo, sweets using fragrant Japanese-produced matcha are also assembled.

"Natural Ice Shaved Ice Himeji Kanbei-do's" "Matcha and Kinako with Yuzu and Mandarin Syrup" is shaved ice luxuriously using Kyoto Uji matcha espuma, Hokkaido fresh milk mascarpone, and Tanba kinako.

Custard and yuzu-mandarin syrup are hidden inside the ice, allowing you to enjoy a refreshing taste with depth. Matcha gelato, fresh warabi mochi, and other matcha sweets are also available.

In addition, diverse menu items from approximately 40 shops appear, including "Okinawa Soba" and "Omi Beef Gyoza." This is an event where you can fully experience the depth of flour-based cuisine and the richness of Japanese food culture. At this "festival of flour" experienced through all five senses, discover the joy of Japanese food.

Hokkaido Fair (September)

Hokkaido Fair

The Hokkaido Fair (September) is an event where you can enjoy dishes made with mountain and sea delicacies from Hokkaido at 10 restaurants within the Prince Park Tower Tokyo. The restaurants offer a variety of Japanese, Western, and Chinese cuisines, with the attractive point being the ability to enjoy Hokkaido flavors prepared through various cooking methods.

I ordered a kaiseki course at the Japanese restaurant Shibazakura, which included a seafood bowl as the main dish along with grilled items, simmered dishes, and soup. I particularly liked the seafood bowl where I could choose 7 types of seafood from 15 varieties caught in places like Abashiri and Kushiro. My personalized luxury bowl with my favorites like tuna, shrimp, and salmon was absolutely sublime!

During the event, there are plenty of takeaway products such as Hokkaido-produced alcohol and sweets, which are perfect as souvenirs. I encourage you to fully experience the cuisine made with Hokkaido ingredients, often referred to as a treasure trove of food products, at the Tokyo Regional Food Festival 2025.

Autumn Hokkaido Delicacies Festival (September)

The Autumn Hokkaido Delicacies Festival (September) is an event held at the 7F event space of Ikebukuro Seibu Main Store where you can enjoy Hokkaido gourmet with all five senses. As you approach the venue, the appetizing aroma of grilling meat wafts through the air!

I tried the freshly harvested corn which goes on sale in the afternoon due to air transportation constraints. The corn harvested in the early morning when sugar content is at its highest was juicy with an astonishing sweetness, just like eating a dessert. Being freshly harvested, it could be eaten raw, allowing me to enjoy the crisp texture and flavor of the vegetable itself.

The menu items delivered from Hokkaido include a wide variety of seafood, vegetables, meat, curry, ramen, and sweets. Choose the menu according to your mood when you visit the Tokyo Regional Food Festival 2025.

The Kyushu Tourism and Products Fair in Yoyogi (October) is an event where you can casually enjoy the gourmet foods and traditional crafts of the Kyushu region. The food offerings include charcoal-grilled local chicken, Hakata hormone (offal) grill, champon noodles, tonkotsu ramen, and other supreme gourmet dishes representing Kyushu.

Since the fair offers meals that pair perfectly with alcohol, I also ordered a set of 5 different sake varieties for comparison. Each had a different aroma and flavor profile, which led me to buy additional snacks to pair with the sake. The booth featuring sake mainly from the Kyushu region also offered 3-variety tasting sets and all-you-can-drink plans. It's a must-visit for alcohol enthusiasts!

Why not enjoy Kyushu's autumn flavors under the blue sky in the open space of Yoyogi Park during the Tokyo Regional Food Festival 2025?

Japanese Regional Ramen Championship (November)

Japanese Regional Ramen Championship
Source:Official website

The Japanese Regional Ramen Championship (October) is an event aimed at raising awareness of local ramen varieties by determining Japan's number one regional ramen. Ten finalist shops that have survived rigorous web preliminaries from various regions across Japan will compete for the No. 1 title at Okubo Park in Shinjuku as part of the Tokyo Regional Food Festival 2025.

Visitors vote for their favorite shop by using coins that come with their ramen tickets, and the top three places are determined by the number of votes received. The 2023 inaugural champion from Yamagata Prefecture, "Sakata Ramen," captured people's hearts with its springy noodles that perfectly complement the rich seafood-based broth.

I shared four bowls of ramen with different bases—soy sauce, miso, pork bone, and chicken—with my friend at the Tokyo Regional Food Festival 2025. Each meticulously crafted ramen was equally delicious, making it difficult to decide which shop to vote for until the very last moment.

Why not taste these passionate chefs' signature bowls and help crown your favorite regional ramen as Japan's best at the Tokyo Regional Food Festival 2025?

The Katsushika Food Festa (November) is the area's largest gourmet event where representative restaurants from Katsushika Ward gather to showcase popular "Katsushika Gourmet" as another highlight of the Tokyo Regional Food Festival 2025.

The food area offers a wide range of menu items including skewered grilled items, fried chicken, long potato fries, and snacks perfect for walking around such as dango, daifuku, and crepes. The strawberry daifuku I tried, which contained a whole strawberry, had a delightful sweet-and-sour accent that made it irresistibly delicious.

The special stage features impressive performances by popular celebrities and local organizations based in the ward. Visitors to the Tokyo Regional Food Festival 2025 can also play with Beyblade (a plastic spinning top battle toy born in Katsushika), and various other activities enliven the event.

SAKANA & JAPAN FESTIVAL in Hibiya Park (November)

SAKANA & JAPAN FESTIVAL in Odaiba
Source:PR TIMES

The SAKANA & JAPAN FESTIVAL in Odaiba (November) is an event that began with the desire to create more interest in fish—Japan's soul food that is rich in nutrients.

When I attended, there was a wide variety of menu items including seafood rice bowls, salt-grilled pacific saury and sweetfish, paella, and ajillo. I enjoyed freshly grilled sweetfish on skewers, slowly cooked over charcoal. The sweetfish was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, with the charcoal fragrance and salt adding accent to the flavor. Because of the simple cooking method, I could directly experience the umami of the ingredients.

Would you like to rediscover the appeal of fish through various cooking methods? The Tokyo Regional Food Festival 2025 will feature this event as one of its highlights, offering visitors a true taste of Japan's seafood culture.

The National Regional Gourmet Fair (December) is an event where you can enjoy local specialties from across Japan—from Hokkaido to Okinawa—in a buffet format. This is your chance to taste local specialties prepared by Tokyo Dome Hotel's top chefs.

The buffet includes Japanese and Western dishes such as sushi, kushiage, sara udon, hamburgers, and roast beef, making it enjoyable for children and adults alike. I particularly liked the lunch-exclusive eel Yanagawa-style. The sweet and savory eel paired with the slight spiciness of Japanese pepper was perfect, and I went back for seconds three times.

The charm of this event is that the dishes come in mini sizes, allowing you to try many different foods. Why not indulge in local specialty menus that you wouldn't normally get to eat?
