Traditional Ginza Events - March 2026

March Kabuki Performance "Kanadehon Chushingura"

Kabukiza

Here's the faithful translation with incorporated Ginza events for March 2026:

"Kabuki" is a traditional Japanese performing art combining singing, dancing, and technical skills (waza). It features elaborate costume designs, makeup, and distinctive grand movements, with dynamic stage rotations being another captivating element.

While preserving inherited traditions, Kabuki incorporates contemporary elements. One fascinating aspect is how long-established plays are arranged to reflect current styles.

"Kanadehon Chushingura," performed as March's main attraction at Kabukiza Theatre in Ginza, is one of Kabuki's three masterpieces. Based on a real incident from the Edo period, it features compelling sword fight scenes and human drama interweaving various emotions. Don't miss this beloved Kabuki production that has endured for over 200 years.

The general entry category is open to all regardless of gender or nationality. The event offers various participation options, including the "Family Run" where parents and children run the final kilometer together.

Hina Doll Exhibition

Hina Doll Exhibition1

In Japan, March 3rd is known as "Hinamatsuri" (Doll's Festival), a tradition celebrating the healthy growth of young girls. Families display Hina dolls, believed to protect children from illness and injury.

The prestigious Japanese confectionery store "Minamoto Kitchoan Ginza Main Store" is hosting a Hina doll exhibition on its second floor. The display features luxurious dolls arranged on eight-tiered platforms and 4,000 hanging decorative dolls called "tsurushi bina" - a spectacular sight only available in March that draws many international visitors. Take time to observe the detailed expressions and kimonos of each carefully crafted doll.

The first floor retail space is adorned with elaborate hanging decorations, creating a festive atmosphere unique to this season. Don't miss their seasonal Japanese sweets themed around Hinamatsuri and "sakuramochi" (cherry blossom rice cakes wrapped in pickled cherry leaves).

Special Experiences in Ginza in March 2026

"Chikanazo e no Shotaijo" is an interactive event where you can enjoy solving puzzles while exploring the city. You'll travel around various Tokyo Metro stations, solving mysteries using hints from signs and other clues found throughout the town.

The participation fee includes a 24-hour unlimited Tokyo Metro pass, which is a nice perk as you don't have to worry about transportation costs. The mystery-solving kit is also available in English.

My top recommendation is the immersive experience of blending into Tokyo's streets and exploring routes that aren't in typical guidebooks. You can stop by tourist spots or grab a meal along the way, enjoying the experience at your own pace.

By following the game's route, you'll naturally travel through various parts of Tokyo in an optimal path. This Ginza event in March 2026 is especially recommended for tourists visiting Tokyo for the first time.

With lingering cold weather in March, Ginza is best enjoyed indoors, savoring Japan's finest cuisine that the district is famous for. However, Ginza's high-end restaurants have many rules and etiquette requirements that might seem daunting for first-time visitors.

If you want to experience Ginza's premium sushi and wagyu beef but are concerned about proper etiquette, consider visiting Japanese restaurants accompanied by a guide who is well-versed in Ginza's food culture and manners.

We've selected two tours where you can watch impressive cooking demonstrations up close while receiving advice on proper dining etiquette and how to best enjoy your meal!

Chiyoda Cherry Blossom Festival

Chiyoda Cherry Blossom Festival
Source:VISIT Chiyoda

The "Chiyoda Cherry Blossom Festival" is a popular spring event held around Chidorigafuchi, one of Tokyo's premier cherry blossom spots. Cherry trees are planted on the slopes of the moat surrounding the Imperial Palace, creating a three-dimensional landscape.

The pink cherry blossoms reflected on the water surface are breathtakingly beautiful. After full bloom, please also enjoy watching the petals dance in the wind and float on the water.

When I took my friends from abroad, they were especially delighted by viewing the cherry blossoms from a boat gently gliding on the water. Advance reservations are required, so please check ahead.

Unlike typical Japanese hanami (flower viewing), eating and drinking are prohibited at this event. It's recommended for those who want to enjoy the cherry blossoms themselves while leisurely strolling.

Date: Mid-March to late April 2026
Location: Various areas in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo
Admission: Details TBD

The Author Also Recommends Hanami at "Ginza Lion" Beer Hall with Cherry Blossoms in Full Bloom!

The Author Also Recommends Hanami at "Ginza Lion" Beer Hall with Cherry Blossoms in Full Bloom!
Source:PR TIMES

"Ginza Lion," built in 1934, is Japan's oldest beer hall. The stately retro building is also registered as a national cultural property.

What I look forward to every spring is the hanami event where the interior is decorated with cherry blossoms in full bloom. It's wonderful to enjoy hanami indoors where it's warm, especially during this season when evenings are still chilly!

The Sapporo draft beer served here has a crisp, refreshing taste that pairs perfectly with karaage (fried chicken) and sausages. Be sure to watch the bartender's craftsmanship as they pour the beer vigorously into the glass to release excess carbonation. It gets crowded during this period, so advance reservations are recommended.

If you want to experience the collaboration between the traditional Japanese culture of "hanami" and a Western-style beer hall, definitely visit this Ginza event in March 2026!

<Information>
Date: Early March to mid-April 2026

March is packed with various cherry blossom-related events in areas around Ginza.

Here I'll introduce four cherry blossom festivals that I look forward to every year. Please enjoy the gorgeous atmosphere unique to Tokyo in spring.

Nakameguro Cherry Blossom Festival

Nakameguro Cherry Blossom Festival

The Meguro River area in Nakameguro, which I visit every spring, is known as one of Tokyo's premier cherry blossom spots. Along the approximately 3.8 km tree-lined path, about 800 cherry trees stand in a row, creating a picture-perfect beauty when in full bloom.

During the event period, the area is illuminated at night, creating a glamorous and fantastical scene. The cherry blossom tunnel formed by branches extending from both sides over the river is perfect for photos. The riverbed, which serves as the main festival venue, is lined with many food stalls, and live performances are also held.

The "Nakameguro Cherry Blossom Festival," which draws large crowds every year, is recommended for those who want to enjoy cherry blossom viewing in a lively, festive atmosphere.

Date: Late March to early April 2026
Access: Along the Meguro River
Admission: Free

Shibuya Sakuragaoka Cherry Blossom Festival

For an urban cherry blossom viewing experience, why not head to Shibuya? At "Sakura-zaka," a popular cherry blossom spot in Shibuya, the cherry trees lining the street are beautifully illuminated.

My favorite spot is viewing the nighttime Sakura-zaka in full bloom from the deck directly connected to Shibuya Station.

In the plaza inside "Shibuya Sakura Stage," a commercial facility along the slope, local vendors set up stalls and live stages are held.

Since the viewing area is compactly organized, it's also recommended for those who want to quickly enjoy the cherry blossoms along with shopping or dinner. Enjoy the collaboration between Shibuya's modern landscape and cherry blossoms!

Date: Late March to early April 2026
Access: 5-minute walk from JR "Shibuya Station"
Admission: Free

Ueno Cherry Blossom Festival

If you love large-scale events, the "Ueno Cherry Blossom Festival" is recommended. About 800 cherry trees fill the sky along the central path of the park, allowing you to fully enjoy spring in Japan. At night, about 1,000 paper lanterns are lit, creating a warm atmosphere.

Another attractive point is that more than 50 food and beverage booths set up, offering various festival foods.

When my friends came from abroad, we enjoyed yakisoba and yakitori together in the classic hanami style, spreading a picnic sheet under the cherry blossoms.

Since the park also has a zoo and museums, it's also recommended for those who want to enjoy more than just cherry blossoms!

<Information>
Date: Mid-March to early April 2026
Access: 2-minute walk from JR / Tokyo Metro Ginza Line / Hibiya Line "Ueno Station"
Admission: Free

Bokutei Cherry Blossom Festival

Bokutei Cherry Blossom Festival
Source:Sumida City

The "Bokutei Cherry Blossom Festival" is an event that preserves the old Tokyo atmosphere. This area, with Sumida Park as the main venue, has been beloved as a cherry blossom spot since the 1700s.

Cherry trees line approximately 1 km along the Sumida River, creating an atmosphere perfect for leisurely strolling. The scenery of yakatabune (traditional houseboats) passing along the Sumida River is also full of charm.

My recommendation is the collaboration between Tokyo Skytree and the cherry blossoms. You can enjoy a beautiful landscape that can only be seen here during this season.

If you want to experience a local festival unique to Tokyo's shitamachi (downtown) area, please definitely visit.

<Information>
Date: Late March to early April 2026
Access: Various areas in Sumida Ward, Tokyo
Admission: Free
