Asagiri Plateau Got Its Name from the Frequent Morning Fog

"Asagiri plateau" means "morning fog highland" in Japanese. It was named after the frequent occurrence of morning fog. Particularly from May to August, the area can be enveloped in such intense fog that visibility becomes nearly zero.

Asagiri plateau is a highland surrounded by mountains, where moist air from the sea accumulates. The moisture absorbed by the ground during the day is released into the air at dawn when temperatures are low, and this water vapor becomes fog.
