Hiroshima's Symbol "Peace Memorial Park" is a Must-See Tourist Destination

Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park is a park located in the center of Hiroshima City. It is a quiet park with lawns and trees in the delta area of central Hiroshima, and is also known for housing the Atomic Bomb Dome and the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.

The park was developed with hopes for lasting world peace, and as you walk through the park, you can hear the sound of the Peace Bell and see various monuments.

Each monument has a profound story inscribed in it. Please take your time to stop and walk while contemplating peace.

The Atomic Bomb Dome is a structure registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today, it is preserved as a symbol of nuclear weapons abolition and world peace.

When you stand in front of the actual building, the sadness conveyed is greater than any photograph can capture. The heat-deformed steel frames and the rubble of collapsed bricks continue to convey the magnitude of the atomic bomb's devastation to this day.

Please take your time to stop and observe it from various angles.

Originally, the garden was created in 1620 as a private garden for a Daimyo (a powerful lord of that era). Today, it is a beloved garden among locals and tourists alike, famous as a scenic spot for Cherry Blossoms in spring and autumn foliage in fall.

During the peak seasons, illumination events are held, allowing visitors to enjoy the emotionally rich natural scenery and traditional Japanese atmosphere while still being in the city center. Hijiyama Park

Hijiyama Park

Momijidani is a tranquil park surrounded by trees, located just a 10-minute walk from the World Heritage Site Itsukushima Shrine.

It is famous as a scenic spot for autumn foliage, with approximately 700 Momiji (Japanese Maple) trees planted—the most iconic symbol of Japanese autumn scenery. In autumn, the park is transformed as the Momiji turn red and orange, creating an emotionally rich landscape. The area around the vermillion bridge is popular as a viewing spot and is highly recommended for photography.

While the autumn foliage is the park's main attraction, my personal favorite is the fresh green season in May. The sight of the translucent, beautiful green Momiji leaves creates a refreshing feeling.

Miyajima is also famous for its deer, and as you walk through the park, you may have the chance to encounter them. Please enjoy a leisurely time while appreciating the interaction with nature and animals.

Hiroshima Botanical Garden

Hiroshima Botanical Garden

Hiroshima Botanical Garden is a botanical garden boasting an area of approximately 18.3 hectares. With over 10,000 species of flowers blooming, visitors can enjoy seasonal flowers no matter what time of year they visit.

The garden features beautiful locations including a Japanese garden, ponds, and lawn areas. Illumination events are held regularly, allowing visitors to enjoy the combination of flowers and night scenery.

My recommendation is the greenhouse, where you can encounter plants rarely seen in Japan, such as Sagaribana (which can only be found in parts of Okinawa), Australian baobab, and giant lotus leaves.

What I love about this botanical garden is that you can not only admire the flowers but also learn about their characteristics and fascinating aspects. Please walk through and experience the depth of the plant world.
