In November, Momiji Road and Momiji Street are beautifully colored

When it comes to highlights of the Kawaguchiko Autumn Festival, there are "Momiji Street" and "Momiji Road." In these two areas located at the main venue of the event, Momiji (Japanese maple) grows densely, creating a beautiful autumn foliage world. If you visit the event, be sure to stop by these two areas.
What is Momiji Highway?

"Momiji Highway" is a 1.2km street that runs along the north shore of Kawaguchiko. Momiji trees are planted along the road, and when the autumn foliage season enters in late October, they turn bright red. The lakeside is wrapped in autumn foliage, and beautiful Mt. Fuji shows its face through the trees.
Usually, it is a modern and calm street lined with art museums, but during the event period, it is bustling with the voices of people enjoying the autumn foliage. During the day, young people enjoy taking photos in the bright atmosphere, and in the evening, couples hold hands in the calm scenery. Illumination is also held at night, and you can enjoy strolling in a romantic atmosphere.
What is Momiji Road?

"Momiji Road" is an area where about 60 Momiji are planted along a 150m stream. During the autumn foliage season, the densely growing Momiji and surrounding trees turn red and yellow, creating a fantastic landscape.
The view from the bridge is particularly beautiful, and the scenery is like a tunnel leading to another world. In mid-November, the leaves fall to the ground and the river turns red, creating a more symbolic world.
It's also excellent for photos and is loved as one of Kawaguchiko's most popular photo spots. Illumination is held at night, and you can enjoy a different beauty from the daytime.
Three highlights of the Kawaguchiko Autumn Festival
Beautiful coloring of trees centered on Momiji Street and Momiji Road

Around the main venue's Momiji Street and Momiji Road, 400-500 Momiji are planted. The densely growing Momiji blends with the surrounding trees, creating a beautiful autumn foliage gradation.
The charm of Kawaguchiko's autumn foliage is also that you can see the spectacular view of Mt. Fuji from both of these areas. The world woven by autumn foliage and Mt. Fuji is beautiful, and you can enjoy the scenery unique to autumn.
Autumn foliage landscape that becomes even more beautiful with nighttime illumination

After sunset, illumination is installed along Momiji Road and Momiji Street, and the venue is wrapped in a more dramatic scene.
Looking over Momiji Road, a golden fantastic world spreads in the darkness, and walking on Momiji Street, the lively voices of people dye the night lights brighter. The lakeside is usually dark and quiet, but during the event period, it changes into a colorful and gorgeous world.
The scene of leaves dyed in red and yellow being illuminated by light is warm and gives warmth even on chilly nights. You can enjoy different beauty during the day and night, so if you have time, please experience both scenery.
Many food stalls where you can fully enjoy Yamanashi's exquisite cuisine

At the Kawaguchiko Autumn Festival, one of the attractions is that you can enjoy local food around Mt. Fuji and gourmet food from local shops.
Food stalls line up around the main venue, and you can enjoy one-hand foods such as potatoes and kebabs, as well as hearty meals such as local foods "Houtou" and "Fujinomiya Yakisoba." The fragrant sauce smell and the sound of grilling meat will surely whet your appetite.
It's chilly Kawaguchiko in November, but warm gourmet foods warm both the body and heart. Why not enjoy autumn foliage with food in hand?

Not just the Kawaguchiko Autumn Festival! 5 Beautiful Autumn Foliage Spots Around Lake Kawaguchiko
There are many spots around Kawaguchiko where you can enjoy spectacular views where Mt. Fuji and autumn foliage harmonize. Here, I'll introduce five spots recommended by the author. Please enjoy the beautiful contrast created by nature while being embraced by the peaceful autumn season.
Oishi Park

Oishi Park is a park famous for kochia, located on the north side of Kawaguchiko. As autumn deepens, the green leaves of kochia gradually change from green to red and golden colors. The fluffy and adorable kochia creates a scene as if a flock of sheep were playing in a meadow. The scenery woven by kochia and Mt. Fuji is also beautiful, with outstanding photo opportunities that make you want to post on social media and show everyone.
It's within walking distance from the main venue of the Kawaguchiko Autumn Festival, so I recommend extending your visit while viewing Mt. Fuji from the lakeside.

Koyodai

Koyodai is an observation deck in the mountains where you can overlook spectacular views of Mt. Fuji. The view of Mt. Fuji towering over the sea of trees is overwhelming, and especially beautiful scenery spreads during autumn foliage season.
My recommendation is the view from Koyodai Tenbo Resthouse. Mt. Fuji rising in blue melts into the scenery of the sea of trees dyed red with autumn foliage, creating an otherworldly scene. It costs 300 yen, but it's a spectacular view you should definitely see if you visit Koyodai.
A trekking course that can be casually enjoyed in about 2 hours round trip is also maintained, so I recommend enjoying the autumn foliage while forest bathing.

Tenkachaya is a restaurant with a retro atmosphere located in the mountains. You can taste warm dishes recommended for chilly autumn, such as "Houtou," a hot pot dish with thick noodles, and "Kamameshi," rice cooked in a pot together with vegetables and meat.
On the second floor, a memorial room is open to the public, recreating the room where novelist Osamu Dazai, who was active in the early 1900s, lived for two months and wrote "Fugaku Hyakkei," depicting the beauty of Mt. Fuji and encounters with people. The view of Mt. Fuji from here is beautiful, and you can quietly feel the emotions he had when he took up his pen to write the novel. This is a recommended spot for those interested in Japanese culture and history.

"Saiko Wild Bird Forest Park" is a park where approximately 60 species of wild birds, including Varied tit and Warbling white-eye, inhabit. Feeding stations are placed throughout the park, creating a peaceful sanctuary for the birds.
From the open lawn area, a breathtaking view unfolds with Mt. Fuji set against a forest colored by autumn foliage. The scenery, enveloped in beautiful bird songs, lets you feel the blessings of Mt. Fuji's rich ecosystem firsthand.
Bird feeding experiences are also popular, where birds will come to eat sunflower seeds right from your palm. It's a heartwarming spot where you can enjoy interacting with wild birds.

From mid-October to late February, during sunset hours, you can also observe "Diamond Fuji," where the sun sets right on top of Mt. Fuji's peak. This park allows you to savor Mt. In November, When You Can Enjoy Autumn Foliage, You Can Also Enjoy Mt. Fuji's Snow Cap!

In November, Mt. Fuji becomes snow-capped and its peak turns white. When I see this sight, I feel the deepening of autumn and the approaching winter, thinking "Winter is coming soon." Mt. Fuji dressed in its snow makeup, shining under the blue sky, beautifully outlines the sky and earth, making the autumn foliage scenery even more beautiful.
The view of Mt. Fuji seen from open mountain tops offers a magnificent landscape that cannot be experienced from ground level. During this season when cold winds blow and the air becomes crystal clear, you can enjoy distant scenery even more vividly.
The Kawaguchiko area, particularly during the Kawaguchiko autumn festival period, is filled with spots where you can view the spectacular panorama of Mt. Fuji's snow cap and autumn foliage. I'll introduce three of my recommended spots.
