Kanazawa is a city that developed from a castle town that flourished during the Edo period (approximately 17th to 19th century, when samurai existed in Japan). Throughout Japan, Kanazawa is particularly famous for having numerous historical and traditional spots.

Cherry blossoms, which can only be enjoyed for a brief period, are what many people cite as a hallmark of Japanese spring. Kanazawa also has many spots where you can enjoy beautiful cherry blossoms in spring. This time, we'll introduce particularly famous cherry blossom spots in Kanazawa, spots where the collaboration with townscapes is beautiful, and hidden gems where you can enjoy beautiful cherry blossoms while avoiding crowds.

2025 Cherry Blossom Forecast and Peak Viewing Times

Kanazawa's cherry blossoms typically bloom from late March to early April each year, reaching their peak in early April. In 2025, they bloomed on March 29th and reached full bloom on April 6th, which was about a few days earlier than average.

The cherry blossom blooming period for each year is first forecasted in January every year. Please wait until January for detailed predictions.

Cherry blossom forecasts predict the blooming time of "Someiyoshino," the most widely planted cherry blossom variety in Japan. The blooming time varies depending on the cherry blossom variety. Also, even with the same Someiyoshino variety in the same Kanazawa area, the blooming time varies slightly depending on the location.

In this article, we provide approximate blooming and full bloom times for each spot, so please use this as reference for planning your Kanazawa Cherry Blossom 2025 experience.

Kanazawa's Classic Cherry Blossom Spots List! 10 Must-Visit Famous Cherry Blossom Locations

One of the reasons Kanazawa is a popular tourist destination is the beautiful scenery that can be enjoyed throughout the four seasons. First, we'll introduce 10 tourist spots where you can enjoy cherry blossoms in spring.

Each has different charms, so we'll introduce the highlights of each spot in detail. All of these are definitely unmissable spots if you come to Kanazawa in spring for the Kanazawa Cherry Blossom 2025 season.

Kanazawa Castle Park

Kanazawa Castle is a castle with nearly 500 years of history. While many structures were restored in later periods, multiple castle architectural buildings are constructed within the grounds.

The greatest charm of Kanazawa Castle is the collaboration between Japan's traditional architecture and cherry blossoms. The castle's imposing nature and the delicate, ephemeral quality of cherry blossoms are very contrasting, yet they match beautifully together.

Cherry blossoms have been beloved by Japanese people since ancient times, with records showing that people have been admiring cherry blossoms for over 1,000 years. When I see the collaboration between traditional buildings and cherry blossoms, I find myself thinking about history, wondering if the samurai who lived through turbulent times were also healed by seeing this scenery.

Kanazawa Castle's cherry blossoms are recommended for those who want to enjoy the collaboration between Japan's traditional landscapes and cherry blossoms during the Kanazawa Cherry Blossom 2025 season.

Kanazawa Cherry Blossom 2025 - Complete Tourist Guide

Planning your Kanazawa Cherry Blossom 2025 experience? Discover the most spectacular cherry blossom spots in this historic Japanese city, where traditional gardens meet modern beauty.

Kenroku-en

Kenroku-en is a Japanese garden with nearly 400 years of history. It's a very large garden that takes about an hour to walk around completely.

This location is especially popular during the spring cherry blossom season. Within the garden, 40 varieties and 400 cherry blossom trees are planted, and as you walk through the grounds, you can encounter cherry blossoms that differ in color, petal shape, and size one after another.

There's also the extremely rare "Kenroku-en Kikuzakura" cherry blossom that can hardly be found anywhere else except in Kenroku-en. Each flower has 80 to 300 petals and blooms in a small ball-like shape. Please be sure to walk thoroughly throughout the garden to search for it.

The cherry blossoms at Kenroku-en are recommended for people who want to enjoy the collaboration of Japanese-style scenery and cherry blossoms, and those who want to see many varieties of cherry blossoms.

Asanogawa Bridge

Asanogawa Bridge is located very close to Higashi Chaya District, one of Kanazawa's representative tea house districts.

It's a bridge spanning the very gently flowing Asano River, and from here you can enjoy cherry blossoms lined endlessly along the riverbank.

The reason I love this place is because the sight of cherry blossom petals flowing down the river is extremely beautiful. The Asano River is a very gently flowing river, and you can enjoy watching pink waves slowly descending downstream.

Additionally, nearby rapeseed flowers (nanohana) bloom profusely. The bright yellow of the rapeseed flowers and the pale pink of the cherry blossoms also complement each other well, and many photographers visit here to take pictures of both flowers.

After enjoying a meal in the tea house district, I recommend taking a post-meal stroll along the river for the perfect Kanazawa Cherry Blossom 2025 experience.

Sai River

Sai River is a famous cherry blossom spot known for its "cherry blossom tunnel." When heading upstream from Saigawa-Ohashi Bridge, the cherry trees extend their branches overhead, creating an experience of passing through a tunnel made of cherry blossoms.

Also, Japan has a culture called "hanami," where everyone eats meals and drinks alcohol while viewing cherry blossoms. The riverbank of Sai River has grass areas, making it a perfect spot for hanami.

Children's playground equipment is also well-equipped, so when I visited last spring, there were many families with children. Although I don't have children myself, the meal I ate while looking at beautiful cherry blossoms and listening to children's laughter was truly wonderful.

This spot is recommended for people who want to experience the "cherry blossom tunnel" and "hanami" culture during their Kanazawa Cherry Blossom 2025 visit.

Mount Utatsu

Mount Utatsu is a place beloved as a nature-rich park, where 500 cherry blossom trees bloom magnificently in spring.

Cherry blossoms can be enjoyed throughout the mountain, but the most recommended spot is the observatory at an elevation of 141 meters. This is a place where you can overlook the entire Kanazawa city, and on clear days, you can see all the way to the distant ocean. It's a great value spot where you can enjoy beautiful cherry blossoms and the cityscape together.

Also, climbing up to the observatory is very enjoyable. Since it's the cheerful spring season, you can enjoy hiking while feeling the pleasant breeze in moderate temperatures. Cherry blossoms greet you here and there, so I always look forward to what's around the next curve.

This spot is recommended for people who want to enjoy Kanazawa's cityscape and cherry blossoms together, or those who like light mountain walking as part of their Kanazawa Cherry Blossom 2025 adventure.

Okuutatsuyama Kenmin Park

Source:Google Maps

Okuutatsuyama Kenmin Park is located further up the mountain from Mount Utatsu, which was introduced earlier. This park offers richer natural surroundings where you can encounter various animals including waterfowl.

The main highlight here is the large pond. Cherry blossoms bloom around the pond, creating beautiful reflections on the water surface and offering views of cherry petals floating on the water. With lawn areas and playground equipment available, this spot is perfect for those wanting to enjoy hanami (cherry blossom viewing picnics) and families with children.

This location is more secluded compared to other spots, making it relatively less crowded. It's highly recommended for those who want to enjoy cherry blossoms peacefully in abundant natural surroundings. For your Kanazawa Cherry Blossom 2025 experience, this park offers a tranquil alternative to busier locations.

Kyouonji Temple

Source:Google Maps

Kyouonji Temple features a single large cherry blossom tree. This is a type called "Shidarezakura" (weeping cherry), characterized by its large drooping branches. The sight of flower-laden branches gracefully hanging down is both beautiful and impressive.

Kyouonji's weeping cherry is particularly spectacular, standing 16 meters tall with a trunk circumference of 2.5 meters and branch spread of 12 meters. This magnificent tree rivals the impact of hundreds of cherry trees blooming along rivers and in plazas. At Kyouonji, the weeping cherry blooms as if embracing the temple gate, creating beautiful harmony with the traditional architectural structure.

This location reaches full bloom earlier than anywhere else in Kanazawa. Visitors who arrive slightly early in the season may still be able to see full-bloom cherry blossoms here, making it an excellent start to your Kanazawa Cherry Blossom 2025 journey.

Daijoji Kyuryo Park

Source:Tripadvisor

Daijoji Kyuryo Park is popular for its seasonal flowers throughout the year. In spring, approximately 150 cherry trees bloom magnificently. Located on hills, this park has varying elevations, with different blooming times and highlights between the upper and lower areas, allowing visitors to enjoy full-bloom cherry blossoms for a longer period than other spots.

The prevailing style of hanami at this park is lying on the grass to view the flowers, which I tried along with the locals. The contrast between the pale pink cherry blossoms and the blue sky visible through them was incredibly beautiful. The gentle spring breeze and warm sunshine were perfect for an afternoon nap, so I rested there for a while.

This cherry blossom spot is recommended for those who want to relax and lie down while viewing the blossoms, making it a perfect addition to any Kanazawa Cherry Blossom 2025 itinerary.

Takao Castle Ruins

Source:Google Maps

Takao Castle is believed to have been built around the 15th century. After the castle lord was defeated by a popular uprising and abandoned the castle, it fell into disuse. Today, no traces of the castle or battles remain, and it has become a peaceful retreat for citizens to enjoy beautiful cherry blossoms and scenery.

More than 1,000 cherry trees are planted here. The cherry blossoms covering the slopes are particularly beautiful, offering spectacular scenery unique to this location. Climbing the mountain and viewing these slopes from above is also highly recommended. Beyond the cherry blossoms, you can clearly see the Kanazawa cityscape.

While the view from the mountaintop is outstanding, you need to climb approximately 300 steps. Please prepare comfortable shoes and drinks before climbing. For those who want to enjoy the breathtaking views earned through effort, this is definitely worth the climb and a must-see destination for Kanazawa Cherry Blossom 2025.

Ringyoshikenjojumoku Park

This park features various trees representative of Ishikawa Prefecture, totaling approximately 800 species and 15,000 trees. Cherry trees alone include 130 varieties and 900 trees, turning the entire park pink in spring. Examining each flower closely reveals interesting differences in petal color, number, and shape.

The park includes an attached Forestry Experiment Station Exhibition Hall, displaying various items such as forestry tools, trees, animals, and bird specimens. As it functions like a museum space, those interested should definitely visit.

This location is highly recommended for those who want not only to enjoy beautiful cherry blossoms but also gain knowledge, making it an educational highlight of any Kanazawa Cherry Blossom 2025 experience.

Kanazawa Municipal Athletic Field

Source:Kanazawa Tourism Official

Kanazawa Municipal Athletic Field is a ground often used for local competitions and events. About 100 cherry trees bloom in profusion surrounding the stadium.

Free opening of the ground is conducted to coincide with the peak cherry blossom season, allowing visitors to enter the stadium and observe the cherry blossoms. In 2025, this was held from March 29 to April 13.

The blue sky, red track field, and pink cherry blossoms create a contrast that is so dazzling you can't help but stare. Also, because it's located in an open area with good sunlight, the cherry blossoms seemed to me to be shining energetically while bathed in sunlight.

The attractive point of this place is that the cherry blossoms feel more dazzling than anywhere else during Kanazawa Cherry Blossom 2025.

Fushimi River

Source:Google Maps

Fushimi River has many cherry trees planted on both banks of the river. This is a place where cherry trees were planted in 1915 to commemorate the enthronement of Emperor Taisho (the emperor from three generations ago). It has been beloved by many locals for a long time.

Because there is a walking path here, you can enjoy cherry blossoms while leisurely strolling along the river. The cherry trees grow in an overhanging manner, so you can also enjoy a cherry blossom tunnel here. The sight of cherry blossoms reflecting in the river and cherry petals floating on the water is also beautiful.

Also, this river has Hokuriku Railway bridges and shinkansen overpasses, so you can capture cherry blossoms and trains or shinkansen in the same frame. This cherry blossom spot is recommended for people who like taking railway photographs during Kanazawa Cherry Blossom 2025.

This is a popular place for its spectacular panoramic views. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom in profusion, and you can enjoy cherry blossoms throughout the grounds. You can ride a gondola to the mountaintop, so even people who aren't confident in their physical strength can visit with peace of mind.

This is also a popular spot for paragliding. (Advance reservation required) The experience of viewing cherry blossoms from above is not something you can easily do, so brave people should definitely give it a try during Kanazawa Cherry Blossom 2025. For those who say "I don't like paragliding because it's scary!", you can also enjoy cherry blossoms from the gondola.

Kawakita Town Cherry Blossom Embankment

Source:Ishikawa Official website

This is a spot where you can enjoy cherry blossom tree-lined streets on the embankment along the river. 206 Someiyoshino cherry trees (the most commonly seen cherry blossoms in Japan) and 3 weeping cherry trees (cherry trees whose branches hang down greatly) form a 950-meter-long row of cherry trees.

The roads here are beautifully maintained and wide, making it popular with local runners. Thinking it was a good opportunity, I tried running too. Running among dancing cherry petals was amazing, and even I, who don't usually exercise, could comfortably run about 500 meters, which is half of the cherry tree-lined street. Also, illumination is conducted at night, so you can enjoy cherry blossoms day and night during Kanazawa Cherry Blossom 2025.

This is highly recommended for people who like exercise or want to enjoy night cherry blossoms.

Shimobayashisakura Park

Shimobayashisakura Park is a small park for locals with cherry trees lining around the park.

This place is locally recommended for children's first cherry blossom viewing experience. There are slides and train playground equipment to play with, and benches under wisteria trellises, making it ideal for watching over children who can play independently from nearby.

Because it's a small park with relatively few people, it's easy to keep an eye on children and you can let them play with peace of mind. Also, since there are no crowds, it's easy to move around even with strollers or large luggage. This park is recommended for families with small children visiting during Kanazawa Cherry Blossom 2025.

If you want to enjoy beautiful cherry blossoms, visit areas slightly away from Kanazawa as part of your sightseeing

Kanazawa has tourist attractions concentrated in the city center, and many tourists explore without leaving the central area. However, since you've come all the way to Kanazawa, let's extend your journey to slightly more distant areas. Even though they're not well-known, there are numerous cherry blossom spots that are just as attractive as those in the city center.

From here, we'll finally guide you to cherry blossom famous spots outside Kanazawa's central area. These are areas you can reach within about an hour from Kanazawa.

Kakusenkei Gorges

Source:Welcome to Kaga no Kuni

Kakusenkei Gorges is a valley of approximately 1.3km with well-maintained walking paths. As you walk through the magnificent nature with strange rocks and waterfalls, you'll come across Kakusenkei Sakura Park, a famous cherry blossom spot.

The attractive point of this spot is the sense of achievement from discovering cherry blossoms at the end of your exploration. While all the valley scenery is beautiful, the moment when vibrant cherry blossoms catch your eye is particularly wonderful and moving.

One of the delightful features here is that there are hot springs nearby. Going on a great adventure to find cherry blossoms and then warming your tired body in hot springs at night will undoubtedly make for a wonderful trip.

Rojo Park

Source:Komatsu City

Rojo Park is a park created on the site where a castle once stood. It's a Japanese garden-style park with ponds, waterfalls, and small mountains within the grounds. Japanese gardens and cherry blossoms complement each other very well, creating an atmosphere of Japanese beauty throughout the park.

One of the attractive points of this spot is the food stalls. You can buy food from the stalls and enjoy your meal while looking up at the cherry blossoms.

Also, at night, the cherry blossoms are illuminated by bonbori lanterns. Bonbori are a type of Japanese lamp covered with Japanese paper over the light source, characterized by soft and dim lighting. Cherry blossoms illuminated by this gentle light feel warm and possess a serene beauty that is truly magnificent. This park is my number one recommendation for people who want to see night cherry blossoms.

Kibagata Park

Source:Official website

Kibagata Park is a park with the finest 1,700 cherry blossom trees in Ishikawa Prefecture. There's a large lake in the center of the park, surrounded by a 6.5km corridor. Since cherry trees are planted all around this corridor, you can enjoy beautiful, uninterrupted cherry blossoms no matter how far you go.

The rich natural environment is another attractive point of this park. The lake in the center of the park is called a "lagoon," which is a lake formed by blocked seawater. This park is a very rare place where the lagoon remains in its natural state, and there are many rare plants and birds. The fact that not only cherry blossoms but also other natural features are attractive is another recommended point of this park.

Ohinomiya Park

Source:WEATHER NEWS

Ohinomiya Park is a park where 100-200 cherry trees bloom magnificently. There's a river flowing through it, and you can enjoy cherry blossoms while strolling along the riverside. There's also a shrine within the grounds. The contrast between the shrine and cherry blossoms is beautiful, like a scene from an anime or movie.

At this shrine, double cherry blossoms (yaezakura) and nine-layer cherry blossoms (kokonoezakura) are popular. While cherry blossom petals usually have 5 petals, double cherry blossoms have 10 or more petals. Nine-layer cherry blossoms are those with particularly many petals among double cherry blossoms. Double and nine-layer cherry blossoms are popular for their more gorgeous and substantial atmosphere compared to regular cherry blossoms.

This park is also located in an area called Kaga Onsen-kyo, where hot springs are concentrated. You can enjoy a peaceful and beautiful Japanese daily life with cherry blossom viewing during the day and hot springs at night.

Kumasaka River

Source:Welcome to Kaga no Kuni

Along Kumasaka River, approximately 200 cherry trees bloom for 1km along the riverside. Along the river, there are various things such as residential areas, schools, and shrines. Therefore, this is not only a tourist destination but also an important route for local people. Walking along this path, you can get a glimpse of how local people live, enjoying not only Ishikawa as a tourist destination but also Ishikawa as a residential area.

Also, every year on the second Saturday and Sunday of April, a cherry blossom festival is held. During this time, food stalls appear and traditional Japanese processions march through the streets, allowing you to enjoy both cherry blossoms and Japanese culture simultaneously. It's recommended as you can feel what cherry blossoms have meant to Japanese people.

If you want to enjoy traditional Japanese festivals along with cherry blossoms, please visit Kumasaka River during the festival period for your Kanazawa Cherry Blossom 2025 experience.

Kanazawa in spring, also savor the exquisite foods that reach their peak in spring!

The "Kanazawa Night Foodie Tour" is a tour where you can fully taste the flavors of Kanazawa, a city sometimes called a gourmet town known for delicious food. You'll visit three restaurants while enjoying attractive cuisine.

All three restaurants are delicious, but the first one is especially recommended. They provide seasonal ingredients in simple dishes that bring out the natural flavors of the ingredients themselves. Japanese sake is also served alongside. One of the attractive points of this restaurant is that they provide Japanese sake with characteristics that match the food, making both the food and alcohol taste even better through synergistic effects.

Additionally, you can thoroughly enjoy Kanazawa's cuisine including oden (Japanese-style hot pot), matcha, and traditional sweets, which are the attractive points of this tour. For people who prioritize food during their travels, this tour is a must-see.
