Art Aquarium Museum Ginza is an art facility where you can enjoy Japanese-style spatial art with water, light, and goldfish. Every year from September to around November, a special autumn exhibition is held where you can enjoy fantastic scenery unique to this season.

In 2024, an event themed "fantasy autumn night" was held. Upon stepping into the venue, various shaped aquariums with swimming goldfish were illuminated by light and decorated with bright red maple leaves and autumn flowers.

All displays were extremely artistic, with gracefully swimming goldfish appearing lovely, expressing the glossy beauty unique to Japanese autumn. Fallen leaves were scattered on the floor, and just walking through the museum allowed visitors to feel the fantastical autumn mood.

A special autumn event is expected to be held in 2025 as well. If you want to enjoy the world of beautiful Japanese-style art, please check out the popular spot Art Aquarium Museum Ginza.

Planetarium Concert -Kenji Miyazawa and Starry Night Classics-

Source:FASHION PRESS

The Planetarium Concert is a limited-time special program screened at the planetarium Konica Minolta PLANETARIA Tokyo in Ginza. Along with beautiful planetarium visuals, classical music related to the works of Kenji Miyazawa, a Japanese literary figure who was active in the first half of the 20th century, is performed live.

Among Kenji Miyazawa's representative works is the fantastical piece "The Night of the Milky Way Train," which depicts traveling through a starry sky. This work has provided tremendous inspiration for later Japanese anime, and it's a novel I personally love.

When I previously watched this program, imagining "The Night of the Milky Way Train," Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World" 2nd Movement was performed live.

The somewhat nostalgic and melancholic melody perfectly matched the image of the work, and combined with the 360-degree celestial visuals and wonderful acoustics, I was deeply moved. If you want to enjoy fantastical starry skies and music in autumn Ginza, please try watching the concert program at PLANETARIA Tokyo.

Planetarium Concert -Shooting Stars and Music from "Howl's Moving Castle"-

Source:Official website

At the same Konica Minolta PLANETARIA Tokyo, another concert program will be screened in November 2025. This is a special program where you can listen to live performances of the soundtrack and related music from the Japanese animated film "Howl's Moving Castle" produced by Studio Ghibli, while watching planetarium celestial visuals.

Famous compositions by renowned musician Joe Hisaishi, including the film's theme music "Merry-Go-Round of Life," are performed live on piano, saxophone, cello, and contrabass.

As someone who especially loves "Howl's Moving Castle" among Ghibli films, I was very soothed by the live performance while being surrounded by celestial visuals projected from floor to ceiling. In the planetarium facility with excellent acoustics, the tones of string instruments felt particularly beautiful and resonant to the heart.

PLANETARIA Tokyo screens many other entertainment-rich planetarium programs. The adjoining cafe and gift shop are also very stylish, so please be sure to stop by.

Japanese Culture and Pop Culture Events You Can Enjoy in Ginza November 2025

HOKUSAI: It Was All Hokusai's Doing Exhibition

Source:PR TIMES

HOKUSAI: The Artist Mad About Painting is an exhibition event where you can enjoy works by Katsushika Hokusai, a representative Japanese painter who was active from the late 18th to early 19th century. Over 300 precious works by Hokusai are displayed, including his masterpiece commonly known as "The Great Wave."

This event features exhibitions that focus on Hokusai's works as the origin of contemporary manga and anime art. Having grown up with Japanese manga from childhood, while viewing the exhibition, I indeed felt that the origins of contemporary manga and anime art styles lie in Hokusai and the ukiyo-e of his era.

Looking at them with fresh attention, I was surprised to find that monochrome drawings with narrative quality, comical and humorous pictures of animals and humans are almost unchanged from contemporary shounen manga art.

Whether you're a fan of ukiyo-e or Japanese manga and anime, please try finding similarities between Hokusai's paintings and contemporary manga art.

Recommended Autumn Foliage Spots Around Ginza in November

Hamarikyu Onshi Teien (Hamarikyu Gardens)

Hamarikyu Gardens is a traditional Japanese garden with vast grounds located 20 minutes by train from Ginza. With over 300 years of history, you can enjoy beautiful ponds, traditional teahouses, seasonal flowers, and historic trees within the garden.

In autumn, you can see beautiful autumn foliage of maple, Japanese maple, and cherry trees around the large pond called "Tide Pond" within the garden. The vivid autumn colors viewed together with traditional Japanese architecture bridges, teahouses, and beautiful ponds create spectacular scenery.

This is also a photography spot where many photographers visit in autumn to capture beautiful bridges, teahouses, and autumn foliage together in one frame.

Additionally, Tokyo Bay seawater flows into Tide Pond, so you can sometimes observe marine creatures like eels and crabs. Try spending a peaceful autumn moment away from the city's hustle and bustle by carefully observing the pond or drinking matcha at the teahouse while viewing the autumn foliage.

Imperial Palace Outer Gardens

The Imperial Palace Outer Gardens are a park area surrounding the residence where Japan's imperial family lives. Despite being in the center of Tokyo with its towering buildings, the vast lawn areas and rich nature including pine trees are beautiful, making it a popular spot for people to enjoy strolling and running.

In the vast Outer Gardens, when November comes, you can enjoy different autumn foliage scenery at various spots within the grounds. For example, at Babasaki Moat, you can enjoy the golden autumn colors of the ginkgo tree-lined street planted along the moat.

Also, Kitanomaru Park, which has a vast lawn area, is spacious with fewer people, so you can leisurely enjoy the colorful red and yellow autumn foliage.

I also visited the Outer Gardens last November. While strolling, the cold autumn breeze felt pleasant, and surrounded by many vibrant trees, I felt so refreshed that I couldn't believe I was in Tokyo.

If you visit the Imperial Palace Outer Gardens in November, I recommend taking plenty of time to slowly walk through the wide park.

When visiting the Imperial Palace, also enjoy Chidorigafuchi Greenway!

Source:VISIT Chiyoda

Chidorigafuchi Greenway is a promenade developed along the Imperial Palace moat. Cherry trees are planted along the promenade, making it a famous cherry blossom spot where you can enjoy a full display of cherry blossoms in spring. In autumn, the cherry trees all turn color at once, and you can enjoy chic and elegant reddish-brown autumn foliage.

At the moat visible from Chidorigafuchi Greenway, boating is a popular activity on sunny days. I really love walking along the Greenway while watching the vivid autumn foliage of the trees and the happy appearance of people boating among the autumn leaves.

Of course, riding a boat from Chidorigafuchi Boating Center and enjoying the autumn foliage from close to the water surface is also recommended. Try looking up at the autumn foliage on both banks from the boat, or leisurely enjoy watching the water surface covered with reddish-brown fallen leaves.

From the Greenway, you can also view Tokyo's high-rise building clusters and Tokyo Tower. When you visit the Imperial Palace, please also enjoy Chidorigafuchi Greenway together.

Gyoko-dori Street

Source:VISIT Chiyoda

Gyoko-dori Street is a street that continues from Uchibori-dori Street in front of the Imperial Palace to the Marunouchi Central Exit of Tokyo Station. It's a popular spot where you can enjoy beautiful tree-lined streets of Ginkgo trees planted on both sides of the wide road with a width of 74m.

In autumn, the Ginkgo trees all turn color at once, and you can slowly stroll along the 190m golden tree-lined street. Many benches are installed at both ends of the street, where you can rest while looking at the Ginkgo leaves that have fallen and accumulated on the ground.

Furthermore, the view of Ginkgo trees at night together with Marunouchi's high-rise buildings and the beautiful brick-built Tokyo Station is a very Tokyo-like scene and my favorite view. If you visit the Ginza area or Tokyo Station, please try walking along Gyoko-dori Street.

KAKUUCHI (Liquor Store Stand) Festival

Source:Official website

The KAKUUCHI (liquor store Stand) Festival is an event where liquor stores from Tokyo and all over the country gather in Ueno Park to open special shops. At the venue, you can enjoy sake from various regions, various alcoholic beverages, and gourmet food.

What I particularly enjoyed at past events I participated in was the "Sake tasting" booth. At this booth, while comparing many different sakes, I could learn in detail about the types and characteristics of sake and how to taste it from the liquor store staff.

The world of sake is profound, and it was a very interesting time filled with knowledge I didn't know. Also, at another paid booth, I could challenge a game of tasting sake and guessing the type. Gourmet foods that pair perfectly with sake, such as karaage (fried chicken) and gyoza (dumplings), are also sold in abundance.

If you love sake, please visit Ueno Park in November.

Asakusa Tori no Ichi Festival

Asakusa Tori no Ichi Festival is a traditional festival held in Asakusa in November. It has a history of over 300 years and is held to pray for business prosperity and good luck.

On festival days, a large-scale market opens in the Asakusa neighborhood, where traditional rakes believed to bring good luck are sold.

The rake is called "Kumade" in Japanese and is believed to have the power to rake in good luck and money. At the Asakusa Tori no Ichi Festival, gorgeously decorated Kumade in traditional style are sold in abundance at the market, and many people visit to buy them as important lucky charms.

At this festival, every time a Kumade is purchased at a store, there's a custom where the shop people give traditional chants to the customers and clap their hands. On the day I visited, 400 shops were set up, and energetic chants were heard here and there, filling the market with enthusiasm.

If you're interested in traditional events, please visit Asakusa on the November event dates.

Shosoin THE SHOW - Feel. The miracle that exists here and now -

Source:Official website

At Ueno Royal Museum in Ueno Park, a noteworthy art event is also being held until early November. "Shosoin THE SHOW" is an art event where you can enjoy precious artifacts from 1,300 years ago through 3D data, stored in Shosoin, a treasure house located in Nara Prefecture.

Shosoin stores treasures including silk textiles, lacquerware, crafts, and musical instruments that were made in Japan around the 8th century or imported through Silk Road trade.

At this event, 3D data of such precious treasures are presented as video with music and narration. When I viewed the same event held in Osaka, I was amazed at how truly precise the 3D digital data scanned using cutting-edge technology such as three-dimensional measurement was.

Compared to ordinary photos or videos, the texture was overwhelmingly realistic, making me feel as if the real thing was right there. Please visit Ueno Royal Museum and participate in this event where you can appreciate ancient art with cutting-edge technology.
