Marunouchi Illumination

Marunouchi Illumination is a traditional illumination event in the Marunouchi area that has continued for over 20 years.

The Marunouchi area is one of Japan's premier business districts, lined with modern office buildings. It's also famous as a fashionable district with luxury brand stores, stylish cafes, and restaurants.

Along the 1.2km main street "Marunouchi Naka-dori Street," approximately 286 street trees are decorated with champagne gold lights. The elegant and sophisticated atmosphere of this illumination perfectly matches the image of the Marunouchi area.

Marunouchi also features Meiji-era architecture and Tokyo Station, a red brick building restored to its original appearance. You can enjoy both retro scenery and futuristic high-rise building landscapes simultaneously.

Odaiba Illumination "YAKEI"

Source:FASHION PRESS

The Odaiba area illumination "YAKEI" offers panoramic views of Tokyo's three iconic landmarks: Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Skytree, and Rainbow Bridge.

What I especially recommend is seeing the illuminated Rainbow Bridge reflected on Tokyo Bay's surface at night. The night sea acts as a black mirror reflecting the scenery, creating a magical view unique to Odaiba with the Rainbow Bridge lights mirrored on the water's surface.

Usually, Rainbow Bridge is illuminated in pure white, but during winter season as part of the Tokyo Illumination Event 2025, it transforms into actual rainbow colors. You can enjoy the colorful Rainbow Bridge truly living up to its name.

Blue Cave SHIBUYA (Yoyogi Park)

Shibuya Blue Cave Illumination is inspired by the Blue Cave on Italy's Capri Island, featuring distinctive blue lighting. From Shibuya's Park Street to the zelkova tree-lined avenue in Yoyogi Park, a path spanning approximately 800m is illuminated with ethereal blue lights.

Especially in Yoyogi Park's zelkova tree-lined avenue, the street tree illuminations reflect on the ground, creating an otherworldly all-blue space.

As this Tokyo Illumination Event 2025 highlight is held in central Shibuya, its excellent accessibility is another attraction. Why not enjoy the illumination while taking a leisurely stroll after shopping or sightseeing around Shibuya and Harajuku?

Tokyo Mega Illumi is an illumination event held at Oi Racecourse, boasting the largest scale among all Tokyo Illumination Event 2025 celebrations within Tokyo's 23 wards.

The main attraction of this event is the illumination displays themed around traditional Japanese landscapes, such as the "Edo Cherry Blossom Tunnel" inspired by rows of cherry trees and the "Primeval Japanese Landscape" area featuring rural scenery. The fusion of futuristic LED light displays with Japanese traditions creates a fantastical world for visitors to enjoy.

During the event period, horse-related activities where you can interact with miniature horses and ponies are also available, offering a unique experience only possible at a racecourse. This Tokyo Illumination Event 2025 is perfect for all generations, from young children to adults.

Roppongi Hills Christmas Keyakizaka Illumination

Source:Yahoo! News

Every winter, Keyakizaka at Roppongi Hills is decorated with illuminations, with approximately 400 meters of tree-lined streets illuminated by about 900,000 LED lights.

Roppongi is an area rich with attractions for adults, including luxury brand shops, stylish restaurants, and art museums. The blue and white illuminations perfectly complement Roppongi's cool and sophisticated atmosphere. This is a recommended spot for couples or adult groups who want to enjoy a romantic atmosphere.

My most recommended viewpoint is the collaboration between the Keyakizaka illumination and Tokyo Tower. From the tree-lined street, Tokyo Tower can be beautifully seen between buildings, offering a stunning contrast of orange, blue, and white lights - a highlight of the Tokyo Illumination Event 2025 season.

Tokyo Midtown MIDTOWN CHRISTMAS

Source:Official website

MIDTOWN CHRISTMAS is a winter illumination event held at Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi, featuring one of the most captivating displays in the Tokyo Illumination Event 2025 lineup.

The highlight is the fantastical snow world expressed by approximately 240,000 lights and bubble decorations. The Christmas townscape glowing in champagne gold gradually transforms into a beautiful snowy landscape, expressed through sound and light. With snow and bubbles floating in the air, this is a special spot where you can enjoy the experience with all five senses.

A spot I especially recommend visiting is the approximately 4-meter-tall "Santa Tree" inside the Midtown building. It's decorated with about 1,600 Santa Claus ornaments, each with different expressions and designs that will make you want to look at each one individually.

Please try to find your favorite Santa Claus among the many varieties.

Prestigious establishments such as the Imperial Hotel and Hibiya Park around Midtown are also illuminated during the same period. My recommendation for the Tokyo Illumination Event 2025 season is to explore the entire Hibiya area while enjoying the illuminations.

Nihonbashi Illumination

Source:PR TIMES

At the Nihonbashi Illumination, commercial facilities and buildings in the Nihonbashi area are illuminated with gentle yellow LEDs. This event carries the wish that "Nihonbashi will always be a place where people feel happy," enveloping the district in warm colors that warm the hearts of visitors.

Nihonbashi was an area that flourished as a commercial center during the Edo period. It was also the starting point of Gokaido (The Five Routes) that connected to the entire country, making it an important place for commerce and transportation for Japanese people at that time.

Even today, many spots that retain traces of that era and centuries-old established stores remain. If you want to experience Tokyo's history while enjoying the illuminations during the Tokyo Illumination Event 2025, this is definitely worth visiting.

Yomiuriland Jewellumination

Source:Official website

Jewellumination is a popular illumination event held at Yomiuriland every winter season. This event, which features LEDs inspired by jewels, creates a space adorned with 14 jewelry colors, making you feel as if you're inside a jewelry box in a romantic atmosphere.

Yomiuriland celebrated its 60th anniversary in March 2024. The 2024 event was themed "LIGHT is LOVE~Diamond60 celebration~" likening the 60th anniversary celebration to a Diamond Wedding Anniversary.

The charm of Jewellumination is that you can enjoy the amusement park attractions while viewing the illuminations. Among them, my recommendation is Yomiuriland's signature roller coaster "Starlight Bandit."

The experience of racing through the illuminated park feels like diving into a world of light, wrapped in an extraordinary sense of exhilaration.

Tokyo Disney Resort

Tokyo Disney Resort holds special limited-time events and Christmas illuminations every winter. As part of the popular Tokyo Illumination Event 2025 attractions, I especially recommend the large Christmas tree decorated in World Bazaar at Disney Land. It catches your eye immediately upon entering the park and instantly elevates your Christmas spirit. Look for ornaments featuring "Rinrin," a character exclusive to Tokyo Disney Land.

Additionally, there are plenty of highlights including Christmas versions of parades and attractions, as well as nighttime fireworks events. Tokyo Disney Resort is also known as "The Happiest Place on Earth" and is a spot where everyone can enjoy themselves, whether with family, friends, or couples.

Sunshine Aquarium Marine Garden Illumination

Source:Official website

Sunshine Aquarium in Ikebukuro is a rare urban-type aquarium located on the upper floors of a building in Japan. It's a popular healing spot where you can interact with marine creatures while being in the middle of the city. The Tokyo Illumination Event 2025 features this venue as one of its standout locations for visitors seeking unique winter light displays.

In the outdoor area Marine Garden, the "Penguins in the Sky" section allows you to see penguins swimming in transparent tanks installed above your head. The sight of penguins appearing to fly between high-rise buildings is a fantastical scene that can only be experienced at Sunshine Aquarium.

While Marine Garden is illuminated throughout the year, a special blue illumination is available during the Christmas period. You'll be mesmerized by the sight of penguins swimming gracefully enveloped in blue light.
