The Author's Favorites! Breakfast Restaurants Popular with Tourists

From here, we'll introduce five breakfast restaurants that are the author's favorites and popular with tourists.

Curio Espresso and Vintage Design Cafe

Curio Espresso and Vintage Design Cafe is a café run by a couple who returned from Seattle, where you can drink specialty espresso drinks. The interior is decorated with antique-style furniture centered around dark brown tones, creating a calm atmosphere.

For breakfast, I recommend the breakfast sandwich. The breakfast sandwich contains scrambled eggs, roast ham, melted cheese, and lettuce sandwiched in an English muffin, and is more filling than it looks. The espresso drinks made with carefully selected beans are delicious whether diluted with hot water or with milk added, so try choosing according to your mood at the time.

In the comfortable interior, sometimes forget about time and enjoy a leisurely breakfast.

Hiramipan

Source:Tabelog

Hiramipan is a popular boulangerie & café run by an owner who trained at French restaurants and bars in the city. When you step into the shop, the wonderful aroma of freshly baked bread lined up at the storefront wafts through, whetting your appetite.

I once ordered the croque madame set for breakfast. The plate comes with a croque madame—a fried egg on top of bread sandwiched with ham, béchamel sauce, and cheese—and a side salad. The bread is crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, and the compatibility with the salty ham and cheese is outstanding—when I took my first bite, I couldn't help but smile.

After enjoying your breakfast, try taking out popular items like cream bread filled with rich homemade custard cream or canelés with an adult flavor enhanced by liqueur!

isotope

Isotope is a café where you can eat meals and baked goods using various Kanazawa ingredients, opened as a sister restaurant of the popular Italian restaurant "jibunchi."

The popular morning plate includes roasted Noto pork, vegetables and cheese from within the prefecture, bread, eggs, and more all on one plate, allowing you to fully enjoy Ishikawa's delicious ingredients. The morning plate can be ordered from 8:00 to 12:30, so I used it for brunch and enjoyed it with a glass of wine.

The shop's recommended baked goods include pound cakes, scones, muffins, and more, all available for takeout. The baked goods come in Japanese-style flavors like green yuzu and plum, so how about buying some as souvenirs?

Cafe Tamon

Source:Tabelog

Cafe Tamon is a traditional house café where you can enjoy meals in an atmospheric interior that renovated a building over 100 years old. Committed to local production for local consumption, their specialty is fluffy pancakes made with rice flour from Ishikawa Prefecture.

There are three breakfast menu items where you can taste their signature pancakes:
- Fried egg and sausage pancakes
- Honey yogurt pancakes
- Eggs Benedict pancakes

I ordered the fried egg and sausage pancakes. The rice flour pancakes have a soft texture and melt in your mouth like cream! Also, the soft-boiled fried egg with rich yolk and juicy sausages, finished with a simple cooking method, have a reputation for allowing you to savor the natural flavors of the ingredients.

If you eat these new-style pancakes, you'll spend a blissful morning time.

Fumuroya Cafe

Source:Official website

Fumuroya Cafe is a café run by "Kaga Fu Fumuroya," a long-established shop specializing in Kaga fu (processed food with gluten as the main ingredient) founded in 1865, where you can eat meals and sweets using fu.

The recommended breakfast is the signature menu item "Kuruma Fu French Toast."

The plate is topped with kuruma fu cooked like French toast, with whipped cream, ice cream, and other toppings. Kuruma fu, which has a hollow center and looks like a donut, is characterized by its soft texture and smooth mouthfeel, allowing you to taste French toast like you've never had before.

Three pieces of kuruma fu are stacked and seem filling, but the light texture means even women can finish it all.

This is recommended for those who want to try an innovative breakfast different from the usual.

3 Breakfast Restaurants Where You Can Enjoy Authentic Japanese-Style Breakfast

From here, we'll introduce three breakfast restaurants where you can enjoy Japanese cuisine. Japanese cuisine is characterized by using seasonal ingredients and cooking methods that bring out the natural flavors of the ingredients.

Additionally, the basics consist of "ichiju-sansai" (one soup and three dishes) centered around rice as the staple food—one soup dish, one main dish, and two side dishes—allowing you to consume a well-balanced nutritional meal.

Since many dishes use plenty of vegetables, they're healthy, and it's attractive that you won't feel guilty even when eating until you're full. There's also attention to detail in how the food is presented using various tableware, making it visually enjoyable as well.

Tsubajin

Tsubajin is Kanazawa's oldest established Japanese restaurant, founded in 1752. From inside the restaurant, you can overlook the Kanazawa cityscape and enjoy exquisite cuisine alongside beautiful scenery.

The breakfast available at Tsubajin is "kani gayu" (crab porridge), which features porridge made with seasonal crab as the main dish, served with a set of side dishes including duck roast, dashi-maki tamago (rolled omelet), and homemade tofu. The porridge, with its concentrated crab umami flavor, has an exquisite taste that makes you want seconds.

Breakfast is offered in four time slots at 7:00, 8:00, 9:00, and 10:00, and reservations are required with a deadline of 22:00 the day before.

Why not enjoy a luxurious Kanazawa Breakfast 2025 experience in this elegant establishment, said to have been visited by great historical figures such as Hirofumi Ito and Ryunosuke Akutagawa?

Kenrokutei

Source:Official website

Kenrokutei is a restaurant located in front of Japan's oldest fountain within Kenrokuen, one of Japan's three most famous gardens, where you can enjoy dishes made with local seafood and vegetables while viewing the Japanese garden.

There are two breakfast menu options:
Jibuni (a local Ishikawa dish of simmered meat and vegetables) set meal with rice cooked in a clay pot
Porridge set meal with Kaga boucha (roasted twig tea)

I have tried the Jibuni set meal with clay pot rice. The taste of freshly cooked rice served in a small individual clay pot was exceptional, and I quickly finished it all along with the flavorful Jibuni.

Breakfast eaten while listening to birdsong in the crisp morning air is the best.

Japanese Restaurant Sorasio

Source:Official website

Japanese Restaurant Sorasio is a sister restaurant of the popular Kanazawa establishment "Miso Soup Restaurant Soramiso," where you can enjoy meals using an abundance of local vegetables and seafood.

This restaurant is located inside a hotel, and while dinner is only for hotel guests, breakfast can be enjoyed by non-guests with a reservation.

The breakfast menu available is the "Seasonal Japanese Breakfast," which consists of over 10 types of side dishes in a special wooden box, seasonal grilled fish, and unlimited refills of miso soup and rice. When you open the wooden box, various side dishes are beautifully arranged like a treasure chest.

The side dishes are seasoned to complement the rice perfectly, and I ended up having two servings of rice.

If you eat a hearty breakfast, it will undoubtedly energize you for sightseeing!

If you want to enjoy Kanazawa's exquisite gourmet food from the morning, visiting Omicho Market is also recommended.

Omicho Market is known as the kitchen of Kanazawa citizens with over 300 years of history. The market has approximately 170 specialty shops lined up, featuring seafood caught in the Japan Sea, locally-produced vegetables, fruits, and daily necessities.

Noukabanzai Tonariya Nodoguro Rice Pot Specialty Restaurant

Source:Official website

Noukabanzai Tonariya Nodoguro Rice Pot Specialty Restaurant is a specialty restaurant for kamameshi (rice cooked in a small individual pot with ingredients) using Blackthroat Seaperch, which is so fatty it's called "white tuna."

I once ordered their signature menu item, "Blackthroat Seaperch kamameshi." Although it takes time because it's cooked after ordering, the freshly cooked rice is infused with the rich umami of Blackthroat Seaperch, and when I took my first bite, I was left speechless by its deliciousness.

The kamameshi can be enjoyed as is, topped with condiments, or as ochazuke (tea-poured rice) with broth added, allowing you to enjoy three different flavors from one dish.

If you savor the umami of the high-grade fish "Blackthroat Seaperch," you'll surely be satisfied both physically and mentally—making it a perfect Kanazawa breakfast 2025 choice.

Iki-iki Tei

Source:Tabelog

At Iki-iki Tei, you can eat donburi (rice bowls) and nigiri sushi made with fresh seafood delivered directly from Kanazawa Port. The cozy interior with only 10 counter seats provides close proximity to the owner, making it reputable as an easy place to enter even when dining alone.

Having eaten too much the night before, I ordered the "Mini Kanazawa Don," which has a smaller portion. Despite being named "mini," the bowl is overflowing with seafood including tuna, sea bream, sweet shrimp, crab, and salmon roe. When I saw the luxurious appearance, my appetite suddenly returned, and I finished the entire bowl in one go.

Regular sizes include various types of donburi such as Iki-iki Tei's donburi and the special Hokuriku donburi made with abundant high-quality ingredients. This is recommended for those who want to eat fresh seafood donburi as part of their Kanazawa breakfast 2025 adventure.

The Mini Ichibaya Don Set I ordered comes with mini Ichibaya don, Kanazawa oden, and ara-jiru (fish broth soup). The bowl, beautifully arranged with tuna, shrimp, salmon roe and more, is small in size but satisfying. The oden infused with broth flavor is also exquisite, making me feel happy from the morning.

Since there's also an alcohol menu, it's possible to have breakfast while enjoying a light drink from the morning.
