Mt. Fuji Events & Festivals October 2026: Autumn Foliage, Fall Highlight, Music Fests & Local Celebrations
Mount Fuji, which can be considered one of Japan's most iconic symbols, is one of the country's premier tourist destinations where you can experience magnificent natural beauty, and I visit regularly myself. The surrounding area is home to numerous attractions, and simply touring around Mount Fuji allows you to enjoy various aspects of Japan.
However, due to Mount Fuji's enormous size, visiting all the tourist spots in the surrounding area takes quite a bit of time. In fact, a friend of mine visited Mount Fuji, but when returning home told me, "I didn't know which tourist destinations I should really visit, and I regretted not doing thorough research beforehand."
This shows that Mount Fuji can be a challenging destination for first-time foreign visitors to fully enjoy.
If you want to experience the Mount Fuji area efficiently and in-depth, I highly recommend having a knowledgeable local guide create the perfect itinerary and touring according to their plan. I actually participated in the "Mt. Fuji Full-day Day Trip Tour from Tokyo with a Private Car & Guide" myself and was amazed by both its convenience and rich content.
This tour is offered by Magical Trip, which won Tripadvisor's Best of the Best award consecutively in 2024 and 2025.

Thanks to our high-quality tours and the unique experience of enjoying tourist destinations like a local, Magical Trip's tours are consistently popular. For those who want to enjoy the Mount Fuji area efficiently and deeply, and for those who want to experience various parts of Japan like a local, I definitely recommend trying a Magical Trip tour.
Introduction
Mt. Fuji, Japan's symbol, is a popular tourist destination that has also been recognized as a World Heritage Site. There are various ways to enjoy it: gazing at the magnificent scenery of nature, savoring famous local cuisine blessed by Mt. Fuji's bounty, and challenging yourself with outdoor activities.
One attractive feature is that various events are held throughout the year where you can feel the four seasons. This time, we have carefully selected recommended events to enjoy around Mt. Fuji in October. We'll introduce events where you can fully enjoy autumn at Mt. Fuji.
If You Visit the Mt. Fuji Area in October, Enjoy the Autumn Festivals Around the Lakes!
At the foot of Mt. Fuji, there are five lakes: Lake Kawaguchiko, Yamanakako, Motosuko, Saiko, and Shojinko, collectively known as the "Fuji Five Lakes."
In autumn, the Fuji Five Lakes area showcases vibrant autumn foliage at its peak. Since the leaves begin to change color from higher elevations, you can enjoy the autumn foliage for an extended period in this area with varying altitudes, which is an attractive feature.
During the autumn foliage season, various autumn festivals are held. If you visit in October, please be sure to participate!
Fujikawaguchiko Autumn Leaves Festival

The main autumn event at Lake Kawaguchiko is the "Fuji Kawaguchiko Koyo Festival." 400-500 trees with vibrant autumn colors decorate the lakeside.
The "Momiji Corridor" near the "Icchiku Kubota Art Museum," which serves as the main venue, is a popular spot where both sides of the path are filled with autumn foliage. After sunset, it's beautifully illuminated, and you can enjoy autumn leaves in a fantastical atmosphere that's completely different from daytime.
My recommendation is the "Momiji Tunnel" covered with vivid autumn foliage. Please take a leisurely stroll!
There are also plenty of local specialty food stalls and events touring the Seven Lucky Gods. Please come out to this autumn event that can be enjoyed by both children and adults!
<Information>
- Schedule: Late October to November 2026
- Access: Get off at "Kawaguchi-ko Station" on the Fujikyu Railway line, transfer to the Kawaguchi-ko Sightseeing Bus (Red Line), and get off at "Kubota Icchiku Art Museum" bus stop (about 20 minutes on foot)
- Admission: Free

Sunset Shore Autumn Leaves Festival

At Lake Yamanaka, the "Sunset Shore Autumn Leaves Festival" is held, attracting over 100,000 visitors annually.
"Yuyake no Nagisa (Sunset Shore)" is a spectacular sunset viewing spot that has been selected as one of "Japan's 100 Best Beaches." This location, where you can view Mt. Fuji, autumn foliage, and the lake all at once, is illuminated in the evening, creating a brilliantly burning autumn foliage scenery.
During the festival period, various restaurants around the lake set up stalls where you can enjoy local cuisine such as grilled seafood skewers and meat-wrapped rice balls! My recommendation is the wine that's unique to Yamanashi, a grape-producing region.
Visit during the day to taste the specialty foods, then enjoy the twilight scenery.
<Information>
- Schedule: Late October to mid-November 2026
- Access: Get off at "Fujisan Station" on the Fujikyu Railway line, transfer to a local bus, and get off at "Asahigaoka" bus stop (about 5 minutes on foot)
- Admission: Free

Yoshida Autumn Leaves Festival

At the "Fujisan Museum," located about 15 minutes by bus from Fujisan Station, events to enjoy autumn foliage are held. This area, which has a high altitude within the Fuji Five Lakes region, reaches peak autumn colors early in October.
The sight of Japanese maples turning orange and bright red against the clear autumn sky is breathtakingly beautiful. About 60 trees line the "Momiji Corridor" that continues through the grounds, where time flows leisurely.
While there are many autumn foliage spots around Mt. Fuji, this place where you can feel a somewhat nostalgic atmosphere is one of my favorites. Please enjoy Japan's autumn as you wish, whether taking leisurely walks or photographs.
<Information>
- Schedule: Late October to mid-November 2026
- Access: Get off at "Fujisan Station" on the Fujikyu Railway line, take a bus bound for Lake Yamanaka, and get off right at "Fujisan Museum Park-mae"

Events at Asagiri Plateau in Nature-Rich Fujinomiya Are Also Recommended
Asagiri Plateau, spreading across the western foothills of Mt. Fuji, is an open and expansive highland with rolling pastures, and a popular spot for outdoor activities. Fumotoppara Campground, from which you can enjoy a direct frontal view of Mt. Fuji, draws campers from all across Japan.
Access is approximately 45 minutes by local bus from JR Fujinomiya Station. Within walking distance from the bus stop, you will find meadows and campsites, making it an easy destination even for first-time visitors.
October is a season painted with pampas grass and autumn foliage. Take a stroll through the highlands and soak in the full atmosphere of autumn.
Asagiri Plateau Festival

The Asagiri Plateau Festival is a popular autumn event held in the area around Asagiri Plateau, Mt. Fuji Event September 2026 and beyond, where visitors can enjoy nature and local food with Mt. Fuji as a magnificent backdrop.
The festival is packed with activities, including direct sales of Asagiri dairy products and locally grown vegetables, hands-on workshops, and stage events — making it possible to enjoy your time by visiting various venues across the area.
Since the venues are spread over a wide area, exploring by rental bicycle is highly recommended.
The most memorable moment from my own visit was an event called "Let's Shout at Mt. Fuji!" Participants shout out their wishes, true feelings, and whatever is on their minds toward Japan's greatest peak.
Some vented their everyday frustrations, others declared their love, and children shouted out the things they wanted — laughter and applause filled the venue, and it was a moment that naturally brought smiles to everyone's faces.
It is a day that frees not just your body, but your heart, in the embrace of nature.

Asagiri JAM Festival

"Asagiri Jam" is a camping-style music festival held on a vast grassland with a panoramic view of Mt. Fuji, where visitors can pitch tents and stay overnight while enjoying the music.
You can take in live performances while gazing at the beautiful first snowcap of Mt. Fuji — a symbol of Japan — and the red glow of Aka Fuji at dusk. Spending time immersed in music against such a grand and sweeping landscape is something unique to this festival.
The event also features festival food centered on locally sourced ingredients and a well-curated craft market, allowing visitors to spend the entire day at a leisurely pace.
Because the crowd is made up of people who love music and camping, conversations spring up naturally. I myself ended up chatting with people around me, with music as the starting point, and had a wonderful time.
This is an event we highly recommend for anyone who wants to experience a truly special moment beneath Japan's magnificent natural scenery.

Various Genre Events Held at Famous Tourist Destinations Around Mt. Fuji
If you're looking for a Mt. Fuji event, September 2026 is a great time to start planning your visit — the area comes alive with festivals and seasonal attractions that carry well into October.
Kinoene Aki Matsuri (Autumn Festival)

The "Kinoene Aki Matsuri" held in Fuji City is an autumn festival that began with wishes for regional development. The street in front of Fuji Station is closed to vehicle traffic, and "Ohayashi" (festival music played on platforms called "Yatai") and Japanese taiko drums are performed.
"Kinoene Bayashi," composed of large drums, small drums, flutes, and gongs, features various musical styles from elegant and atmospheric to intense ones, making it very worth listening to.
My recommended highlight is the main Yatai decorated with carvings by local sculptors. The traditional technique-crafted main body is decorated with ornaments based on old folk tales.
By paying attention to uniquely Japanese festival elements like Ohayashi and Yatai, you can enjoy it even more! This authentic Mt. Fuji Event October 2026 experience showcases traditional Japanese culture.

Tokinosumika Illumination

The resort facility "Tokinosumika" in Gotemba City holds an illumination event from mid-October through March. This event, which represents Tokinosumika, won awards in two categories of the International Illumination Award.
My recommendation is the fountain laser show that won the Excellence Award in the Technology category. Japan's tallest fountain show with a maximum height of 150m features gorgeous performances combining light, water, and sound with lasers.
In the "Tunnel of Light," which has become a symbol of Tokinosumika Illumination, you can enjoy an immersive experience wrapped in a dazzling world! This spectacular Mt. Fuji Event October 2026 celebration creates unforgettable memories.

The "Fuji-Q Halloween Horror Attraction Night," with the concept of "limited to those who want to experience genuine fear," challenges you with various missions in the completely dark amusement park after closing.
There are plenty of productions that horror movie lovers like myself can't resist, such as ghosts chasing you in places so dark you can't see ahead. Please enjoy the nighttime Fuji-Q Highland that can only be experienced on this occasion, including normally off-limits restricted areas! This thrilling Mt. Events Loved by Locals Where You Can Enjoy a Genuine Neighborhood Atmosphere!
The area around Mt. Fuji is abundant with delicious ingredients blessed by nature's bounty. Here we introduce two recommended events where you can savor these exquisite local ingredients.
Please be sure to visit these events filled with local atmosphere!
Hataorimachi Festival (Weaving Town Festival)

The Hataorimachi Festival is a town-wide event held in Fujiyoshida, a renowned center of textile production. In addition to tours of weaving factories, more than 130 vendors line the streets offering carefully selected goods, food and drink markets, workshops, and much more.
One of the unique highlights of this festival is the opportunity to visit traditional weaving studios that are rarely open to the public, where you can get up close to the skills of craftspeople and directly experience hand-dyed woven textiles.
Witnessing the meticulous handiwork of the craftspeople in person was truly moving — their care and passion were palpable. The event conveys not only the industrial history of the craft, but also the heart and soul of the makers, offering a renewed sense of the depth of craftsmanship.
This event is highly recommended for anyone who wants to understand the story behind how things are made, or who wants to connect with the authentic local charm of the region.
- Date: Around mid-October 2026 (TBD)
- Venue: Shimoyoshida area, Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture
- Access: Directly accessible from "Shimoyoshida," "Gekkeiji," and "Fujisan" Stations on the Fujikyu Railway Line
- Admission: Free

Fujisan Jukuu no Mori Grand Autumn Festival – Gotemba Autumn Festa

The Fujisan Jukuu no Mori Grand Autumn Festival is a fall event held at "Fujisan Jukuu no Mori" in Gotemba. The festival features baked sweet potatoes, local gourmet food, food trucks, handmade goods for sale, workshops, and more, drawing large crowds of families and tourists.
The standout attraction is a special event where 1,000 Pacific saury (sanma) sourced directly from Ofunato Port in Iwate Prefecture are grilled over charcoal and distributed to visitors free of charge.
The freshly grilled saury has a wonderfully crispy skin and plump, tender flesh — a perfect way to savor the flavors of autumn — and it's something I personally look forward to every year.
A numbered ticket distributed from 9:00 AM on the day of the event is required to receive the fish, so early arrival is strongly recommended.
Come enjoy the distinctive tastes of autumn at a venue with a stunning view of Mt. Fuji.
- Date: TBD
- Venue: Maruvi Dome
- Address: 696-1 Inno, Gotemba City, Shizuoka Prefecture
- Access: Take the Fujikyu Bus from JR "Gotemba" Station and get off at "Fujisan Jukuu no Mori," directly at the stop

JA Narusawa Village Agricultural Festival

In Narusawa Village, located at the northern foot of Mt. Fuji near Lake Kawaguchi, an agricultural festival is held in mid-October. The event bustles with visitors who come for local specialties such as highland vegetables like cabbage, fruits, and mountain vegetables.
My recommended highlights are the experiential booths such as radish harvesting experiences and all-you-can-stuff activities for potatoes and onions. While it might be difficult to take these home during tourist travel, people staying at campsites or accommodations with kitchens should definitely try it!
There are also food and beverage booths where you can taste Japanese local cuisine such as Miso Oden (miso-flavored simmered dishes) and Kenchin Jiru (vegetable-rich soy sauce-based soup).
Please visit this local event where you can feel the charm of Narusawa Village!

Fujiyoshida Agricultural Festival

The "Fujiyoshida Agricultural Festival" is held at Fujisan Museum Park and is a popular festival among locals. They sell fresh local agricultural products grown with Mt. Fuji's natural water, including cabbage and radish, at reasonable prices.
My recommendation is the corner where you can taste food made with local ingredients. Enjoy various foods such as yakisoba, curry, french fries, roasted sweet potatoes, and hot dogs under the autumn sky as you please!
Additionally, there are plenty of unique projects typical of agricultural festivals, such as sales of wooden craft items made from local timber and displays of helicopters used for pesticide spraying.
How about spending a leisurely autumn day at this relaxing atmosphere event?
